Transform Wooden Pallets Into The Perfect Towel Holder For Your Bathroom
If you're itching for a new project that won't take much of your time but will yield impressive results nonetheless, why not try your hand at creating your own wood pallet bathroom rack? We've highlighted the wood pallet in past projects — including recycling pallets into a wooden shed and using wood pallets for unique home and garden projects — and this is another clever way to reuse them, creating an original towel holder for your bathroom using a single wood pallet plank, a drill, and some decorative drawer knobs for hanging your towels on.
Cheap and easy to obtain, the wood from pallets is a material favored by many DIY enthusiasts for its standard sizing, durability, and overall rustic appeal. This DIY endeavor also calls for decorative drawer knobs, which come in a range of materials and designs. A quick internet search led us to these lovely, vintage Victorian glass knobs on Etsy for less than $8; a set of six gorgeous, hand-painted ceramic drawer knobs on Amazon for $17; and this chic brass and marble knob on Anthropologie for $16. You can even find them in your favorite antique shop or hardware store. Feel free to mix and match any of them to your liking.
Drill evenly spaced holes into your wood pallet
Next, decide on your towel holder's length, and cut your pallet plank accordingly. Since it's going to be hanging in your bathroom, waterproofing the wood pallet to protect it against moisture would be a prudent precaution to take. Moisten the wood with a spritz of water and let it dry before brushing it down with two coats of a stain-and-sealing product that you can pick up from any hardware store, allowing it to dry completely between coats. Stains also come in different colors, allowing you to personalize the shade of your towel rack to your liking.
Mark the spots on the wood where you envision placing your drawer knobs, spacing them out evenly. You can choose the correct drill bit for creating your holes by comparing the diameters of the drill bit and your drawer knob's screw: The diameter of the drawer knob's screw should be slightly bigger than that of the drill bit you use. Since you're drilling on wood, use a wood twist drill bit, which features a pointed metal tip that helps with precision drilling and spiral cutting edges that prevent wood from breaking and splintering. Once the holes are drilled, screw the drawer knobs into place. Use simple picture frame hangers to display the finished product on your wall. Alternatively, you can also use this versatile rack for hanging necklaces, bags, or hats.
