Here's How You Can Turn An Empty Detergent Bottle Into A Budget-Friendly Soap Dish

Keeping your sponges or soap from falling into the sink or keeping them neatly organized so they aren't cluttering your countertop can be a challenge. Many people choose to purchase a soap dish to help solve this problem and there are so many beautiful soap dishes you'll absolutely love, but they can be expensive. Even a cheaper and less aesthetically pleasing one found on Amazon can cost around $10 per dish. Rather than spending money on something that doesn't add much value to your decor, use this DIY to turn an empty detergent bottle into a budget- and eco-friendly soap dish!

YouTube creator @diybehappy shows how easy it is to create your own soap dish from a leftover detergent bottle. Start by tracing a circle on one side of the bottle using the lid. Then, create a triangle that extends from the circle and reaches toward the bottom corners of the bottle. Stop about an inch from the bottom and then trace around the bottle in an even, horizontal line. Cut along the line you created using a box cutter, and you should be left with a thin dish with a triangle-like back. Using a soldering iron, poke a small hole in the center of the circle, which will be used to hang the soap dish. Then, poke several holes in the bottom of the dish to allow for water to drain. Hang the soap dish, and it will be ready to use!

Tips for making this soap dish DIY

Making this DIY perfect for your home only takes a few extra minutes. Start by sanding the edges of your new soap dish to ensure that the rough plastic won't accidentally nick your finger when you try to grab the soap. While you have the sandpaper out, sand the rest of the bottle to make it ready to paint. Use waterproof spray paint to coat this design to make it fit better with your decor. Also, before painting, put your can of spray paint in hot water to make the paint easier to mix. You'll thank us later.

To easily attach your soap dish on the shower wall, the kitchen or bathroom tile, or the inside of the kitchen sink, use a suction cup hook like these found on Amazon. Then, if you have extra detergent bottles, you can create multiple soap dishes for locations all over the house, or you can look at other genius ways to repurpose your empty laundry detergent bottles.
