The Adorable DIY Cake Box Decor That's Perfect For Storing Small Items

Finding cute ways to store jewelry and other small items can add a lot of charm to rooms. This is especially true for cottagecore or maximalist spaces that revel in cute details, a sense of eclectic coziness, and interesting collected objects. Instagram user @angelsign_recently showed how she turned a blank wooden box into a beautifully intricate cake-shape using some acrylic paint, silicone caulk, and a pastry bag. Use them for jewelry, trinkets, and accessories to add whimsical charm to your home.

Similar wooden jewelry boxes are available in all sizes and are relatively inexpensive from places like Michaels and Dollar Tree. In addition to decorative "icing" along the perimeter to create frosted details, you can include other small decorative accents like rhinestones, beads, fruit, or flowers to customize your cake box. This is also a great chance to reuse similar wood pieces like old wine and cigar boxes, or to upcycle thrifted wooden jewelry boxes that have seen better days.

Creating a cake jewelry box

Begin by using a screwdriver to remove the hardware and hinges from your wooden box. Paint it a base color with acrylic paint, covering the inside and outside of the box. Reattach the hardware after the paint has dried fully. Fill a pastry bag with a mix of acrylic paint and silicone caulk to create your frosting. Use the bag to create borders, flowers, and other designs on top of the wooden box as if you were frosting a real cake. Allow the silicone to dry overnight before using.

These adorable boxes are perfect to give as gifts, or keep one yourself as a cute jewelry organizer for your space. You can also apply a similar treatment to sturdy craft store cardboard boxes or repurpose empty phone boxes to create one-of-a-kind gift boxes. Use three round boxes stacked together as a fab layer cake that provides a lot of vanity or accessory storage. Or, for a fun maximalist DIY idea, create an array of them for a Marie Antoinette-inspired vanity setup to keep all your stuff in. They would also look adorable in a romantic pink bedroom.
