The Trending Kitchen Material HGTV's Jeremiah Brent Has Loved For Years

One kitchen trend projected for 2024 was the use of sustainable materials, like porcelain, in different ways around the same kitchen to create a seamless look. When asked what design trend he was obsessed with in an Elle Decor interview some years back, Jeremiah Brent raved about this classic material and discussed how to use it. "I am a huge fan of porcelain in kitchens. It's an easy, interesting material," he told Elle Decor.

Porcelain can go head-to-head with today's leading countertop materials. From its light weight to its stain-resistance, it can be just what you need in the kitchen, and beyond, since it can also be used in other spaces. Just note that you need to avoid anything that will scratch or crack your porcelain surfaces. Be gentle with them, wipe up water and other spills fast, and keep them clean with warm water and soap or a simple cleaning spray product.

Using porcelain in the kitchen

What we love about porcelain as a kitchen material is that there are many ways to incorporate it. Porcelain might be a lesser-known countertop material, but it will deliver durability and style. Also, some of the current color and pattern trends include options for most design tastes. White and neutral porcelain countertops can fit a modern, "clean" aesthetic, while bold veining and more unique colors, like earth tones, can achieve a more personalized aesthetic. You can even get porcelain slabs that imitate another material like concrete or marble.

The slabs can also be used beyond the countertops. "You can get porcelain slabs that look really beautiful for a fraction of the cost and use them for an island or a backsplash," said Jeremiah Brent (via Elle Decor). As an island or backsplash, this material can create the bold moment you need since it adds texture and dimension to the space. You can even go as far as installing a porcelain sink in the kitchen.
