Add Funky Flair To Your Kitchen With A Dollar Tree Utensil Wall Clock DIY

Between mobile phones, smartwatches, and AI assistants, we so rarely have use for a traditional clock. Somehow, despite all this, these timekeepers continue appearing on walls across America. One place we see them a lot is the kitchen. They're used for managing schedules, timing recipes, and as a form of decor. One funky way to set the tone for a room of culinary delights is with a cutlery clock.

These unique timepieces aren't commonly available on furniture store shelves, and when you do find them, styles are limited. If you want one customized to your home's decor, there's only one answer — DIY it. Fortunately, there are plenty of online tutorials to help with this, and some even offer tips on cutting costs. One such YouTuber, TheCraftyDIYGuy, made one using a $3 thrifted timepiece, and some plastic silverware from Dollar Tree. If you're looking for budget-friendly kitchen decor idea, check out how to make your own utensil wall clock.

Adding Dollar Tree finds to your clock

All you need to start this DIY is a hot glue gun, glue sticks, 12 pieces of cutlery, and a basic wall clock. If you don't have one at home, pick it up on Amazon for $9.97 or Walmart for $4.52. For accessories, check out the packs of plastic flatware from Dollar Tree for $1.25. These are great choices because they let you decorate with metallics without adding too much weight. Once you've gathered supplies, you can begin assembling it.

Before you glue anything down, use a pencil or a piece of chalk to mark each hour on the back of the timer. This offers a blueprint for your glue. Next, set out the utensils on the lines to make sure they fit at their current length. Being plastic, you can trim the handles if they're too long. Hot glue each piece of silverware down, checking that everything lines up with the numbers on the front. That's all there is to it.

Customize this project by buying a timepiece with a bold frame or by spray painting it a fun shade before adding the cutlery. You can also add a metallic flair with some Rub n' Buff from Michaels for $6.99. Or, to add more color to your new kitchen decor opt for vividly-hued flatware like this set from Party City
