Create Space-Saving Lawn Chair Storage In Your Garage With This Simple DIY

We all need a place to sit when warm weather arrives, and we're outdoors more than indoors. Many people don't have enough heavy-duty lawn chairs for outdoor seating, so folding alternatives are ideal. They take up space only when they're being used, so if you don't have a large deck, folding chairs are the perfect seating solution. The downside of this fabulous chair is that they can be challenging to store. Lawn chairs usually end up in the garage, haphazardly leaning like a house of cards, ready to crash down at any moment. The good news is you can use the vertical space in your garage to organize your folding lawn chairs, which is an especially good storage idea for a small garage. This DIY project only requires a couple of pieces of lumber and uses that vertical space quickly and easily.

For this project, you'll be turning the pieces of lumber into brackets and attaching them to the exposed wall studs in the garage. However, before attempting to start this project, do a little decluttering. You don't need a complete garage clean-out; you just want to organize your garage in the area where you'll be working. You'll also want to be able to easily access your chairs once you've hung them on the brackets.

How to make vertical lawn chair storage

For a DIY version of folding chair storage, you'll need two pieces of 1 by 4 foot lumber cut at least 8 inches long to allow for angled ends. Trim each piece of wood with a miter saw to measure 7-3/4 inches long while creating a 30-degree angle on both ends of each piece. Lightly sand the ends of the newly cut brackets using medium grit sandpaper. Once you've got your brackets cut and ready to hang, choose a spot to hang them. Using a level, mark two spots across from each other between two studs. Next, attach each bracket directly to the wall studs using 2-inch screws. When the brackets are firmly attached, hang your folding chairs over them.

For those of you without exposed studs in your garage, you can add a pre-made, wall-mounted folding chair rack from Home Depot to your wall for $44. This rack gives you storage for three rows of folding chairs. Like before, you'll need to prep the area where you'll be hanging the system or the hooks by marking off the mounting spots using a level, but this time make sure to follow the installation instructions on the packages for a sturdy result.
