DIY The Cutest Witch's Broom Halloween Decor Out Of A Dollar Tree Toilet Plunger
Autumn is more than beautiful falling leaves and decorative gourds; it's also the best time to indulge in spooky Halloween fun. So, why not start with your home decor? There are lots of cheap and easy ways to make DIY Halloween decorations, starting by scouring the aisle at your local Dollar Tree to find some amazing products for witchy decorations in particular. For instance, TikToker Kimbo West, also known as @agirlandagluegun, made a truly adorable witch's broom display using only Dollar Tree items.
Of course, it wouldn't be an autumn Dollar Tree DIY project without venturing for some odd or unexpected pieces to make this display. West started with a humble toilet plunger to make the broom handle — an easy find at any Dollar Tree. In addition, she gathered some straw raffia to decorate the base of her broom and cover the actual rubber plunger (which acts as a stand to hold the broom up). If you can't find raffia at Dollar Tree, you can also find it on Amazon for about $8. Other than that, you will need some paint, hot glue, and any other accouterment to decorate the boom. West also picked up some witch-themed signs in the seasonal section to tie the whole look together, which are just some of the many purple Halloween decor items at Dollar Tree this year that are great for a witch-themed project.
How to create your DIY witch's broom
After West painted the handle of her broom, she hot glued the raffia all around the base and wrapped some of the straw around the handle to secure it and give it a more handmade, witchy look. She then glued her signs directly onto the handle. One tiny detail that West attached was a tiny fake spider to the raffia to make this broom just a little extra spooky. When you're done assembling your broom, put it by the entryway for a Halloween-ready foyer or place it on the porch as decoration for potential trick-or-treaters. The fun, family-friendly sign would look excellent next to your family's jack-o-lanterns or a Halloween-themed hearth. For an extra magical touch, you can even attach fairy lights (on Amazon for $8) to the broom.
Other DIYers have created similar brooms using nautical rope or jute twine, which can also be purchased on Amazon ($12 for 100 feet), a craft store like Michaels ($17 for 100 feet), or Dollar Tree ($1.25 for a little over 9 feet). This method involves gluing the rope in several layers and then untwisting the strands for a full-looking, fringe-like broom at the base. Alternatively, for a more natural look that is also easy on the wallet, you can gather small, flexible twigs from your yard and tie them to the plunger with twine. You may still want to use hot glue to make the base full enough to cover the rubber plunger entirely with twigs, much like you would with the straw raffia. Try brushing a little cinnamon oil onto your broom at the end to make your home smell like fall.
