Hide A Mini Fridge In Plain Sight With This Easily Customizable DIY

We all love a handy mini fridge. It's perfect for any space, whether your chilling drinks in your dorm room or pet food in the garage, but they aren't the most attractive feature. Disguising the mini fridge inside a cabinet is a clever way to hide your small appliance. It'll blend into your space for a seamless look while adding functional and stylish storage. And that is exactly what we're creating with this DIY.

This mini fridge cabinet is a fairly beginner-friendly project. There's some cutting and drilling needed, but nothing overly technical. For the base, you can use any furniture cabinet with a hinged door large enough to house your mini fridge, like a media console or nightstand. Before browsing your local store's cabinet section, check if there are pieces you have on hand that can be repurposed. Open cabinets and storage cubbies also work for this project; you'll just need to add a cabinet front, or use a curtain to hide the appliance instead of a door. In just one afternoon, you can give your fridge a stunning built-in look to match any room and make the clunky box disappear.

How to build a mini fridge cabinet

Building your mini fridge cabinet is very simple. DIY creator @builtbybec shared their own process for the project on TikTok. First, you'll need to cut an opening in the cupboard for the fridge's vent. This may be on the back or bottom panel. Proper ventilation is an important feature for your mini fridge cabinet and the cupboard can become a safety hazard without it. Improper air flow can cause the appliance to overheat and spark flames. We want cold drinks, not a bonfire. Once the openings are cut for the vent, slide the fridge into the cabinet.

As is, the cabinet works as a chic storage cupboard. However, instead of having to open the cabinet and then open the fridge, you can get straight into the ice box with one pull. To do so, you'll need to attach the fridge door to the cabinet front with a bracket, like the UNIVERSAL Fridge & Freezer Door Mounting Bracket Kit from eBay that costs a little over $7. Screw the track to the inside of the cabinet front, slide the bracket onto the track, and drill the fridge door to the bracket. Then, the two doors will become one. Now, your mini fridge cabinet will be your little secret.
