A Pool Noodle Ghost Kid Is The Most Adorable DIY Halloween Decor For Your Porch
The minute we close the book on August, it feels like Halloween season. Time to get out the black and orange gear, ghostly accouterments, and clacking skeletons. It's too early to carve up the pumpkins, but it's high time to give your porch a dose of spooky. A faux ghost child or two made from old clothes and a pool noodle is an adorably cheap and easy Halloween decoration you can DIY. In their easy-to-replicate tutorial video, TikToker @brittabooboo came up with a pair of ghosts in staggered sizes. With the help of two pool noodles, pairs of outgrown kids' jeans and boots, a bit of black fabric, a white sheet, and some scissors and glue, our DIY'er created a pair of mini-ghosts in minutes.
Get inspired for Halloween with a pint-sized ghost on your porch. For the anatomy of this project, the boots and jeans filled with a curved pool noodle make up each leg. The head and body are made up of the top curve of the noodle covered in the quintessential ghost sheet look. If you don't have a collection of outgrown clothing on hand, hit the thrift stores for a pair of used boots and pants. Also, you aren't limited to a white sheet for your ghost; a patterned sheet makes for an offbeat ghostly covering.
Craft your ghost child
Stuff the footbed of the boots with crumpled paper, plastic bags, or fabric scraps. If your porch is often subject to winds, you can fill the boots with rocks or other weighty items to keep your ghost upright before adding the stuffing materials. Bend a pool noodle in half and slide each end into the legs of the pair of pants. Then, slip the clothed noodle ends into the boots. Pack a bit more stuffing around the noodle if your ghost kid could use more support. You can also adjust your ghost's height by stuffing the boots past the ankle so that the pool noodle isn't touching the footbed of the boot.
Cut a circle of white fabric that's large enough to drape over the curved top of the noodle and reach hip-length or mid-thigh on the pants. This method will give you a two-dimensional head. If you want a rounded ghost's head, fit the top curve of the noodle inside a large, upside-down lightweight bowl. The noodle's curve may fit tightly enough inside the bowl to hold it in place, but you can also secure the bowl to the noodle with heavy-duty tape. Cover the "head" with the white cloth. For the eyes, cut two ovals of black fabric about 3 to 4 inches long and 2 to 3 inches wide. Glue them to the "face" area of the sheet, a few inches below the crown of the head (the top curve of the noodle). Display this creepy-cute Halloween decor idea on your porch for a great way to kick off the scary season.
