DIY Unique Concrete Pumpkins To Give Your Fall Decor An Edgy Aesthetic

Cement decor: trendy or super trendy? The answer: super trendy. Cement designs and elements easily add an industrial, modern, and minimalist vibe to any home. While decorating with exposed cement countertops, walls, or even floors is still a popular option for those who love the sleek, industrialist style, not everyone wants to commit that heavily to the theme. The good news is that there's a Halloween DIY that utilizes concrete without needing hundreds of pounds of it. You also don't need expert knowledge of how to use it. In fact, with a little Quikrete, you can make your own chic Jack O' Lanterns and give your home an edgy design that gives a nod to the spooky season. You might love these pumpkins so much that you'll want to keep them out even after fall is over.

Supplies may vary slightly, as some people might have a preference for the concrete they use. Quikrete is one of the easiest options, and while it can be used to create everything from pool noodle planters to concrete DIY candle holders, it really shines with this project. You should also visit your local dollar stores, Halloween shops, or anywhere else that sells plastic Jack O' Lantern buckets. They need to be hollow, and the cheap versions are ideal since you will likely have to cut away the bucket when revealing the concrete underneath. If you want to make your concrete pumpkin hollow, have large plastic cups at the ready which you can use to create a hole within the Quikrete.

Upgrade your concrete color or paint

Mix up your concrete with water and do your best to keep the mixture on the watery side. Your pumpkin will dry nicely even if the Quikrete is watery, so don't worry too much as you combine. If you want your "edgy" pumpkin to come out another color than just the standard gray, you can add in liquid cement color, too. This will provide the same industrial effect but in a shade that matches your home or decor. You can do this in a bucket or a different bowl you don't mind throwing away. Dump your mixture into your plastic Jack O' Lantern, filling it to the top. If you want the decor to be hollow, this is when you will push a plastic cup down into the mixture. The larger the cup, the more space you will have inside the concrete pumpkin, so keep that in mind when "hollowing" it out.

Allow your Quikcrete to dry, then remove the exterior plastic by cutting it away and pulling as needed. You can do the same with the cup inside, either by cutting it out or simply pulling it if the mixture is loose enough. If you've already added color to the concrete, simply place your pumpkins on display and add in a candle, flowers, or a bundle of twinkle lights. You can paint the cutouts to accentuate the eyes and mouth, or just leave the standard concrete as is. Now you have a truly edgy decor setup that can be spun around to hide the Jack O' Lantern and used whenever you want. Plus, the extra weight means there won't be any pumpkin smashing.
