Give An IKEA BRIMNES Glass Cabinet A Boho Makeover With TikTok's Creative Idea

The BRIMNES glass cabinet from IKEA is a chic décor piece with 10 glass shelves and two stationary wood shelves that provides plenty of storage space. Although this cabinet is stunning, its sleek and polished design does not exactly fit the boho aesthetic. If you prefer to decorate your home with a bohemian style, you might be happy to know that you can use a simple TikTok DIY to transform the IKEA BRIMNES into a piece that would mesh perfectly with the other items you own. A clip posted to the platform by user @clickbader reveals that all you need to do is cut rectangular pieces of cane webbing to the size of the glass windows and adhere them using hot glue. Follow that up by making a binder cane border around the edges of the cane webbing rectangles and gluing it in place.

Feel free to use this DIY on either the black or white version of the BRIMNES glass cabinet. Both would result in a stunning finished product. Before moving forward with this project, keep in mind that the cane webbing rectangles will prevent you from using the cabinet as a display case because they will cover up the transparent glass. However, this can be a good thing if you want to increase the amount of concealed storage you have, and be able to stash less decorative items in the cabinet.

How to complete TikTok's boho IKEA BRIMNES makeover

To start this makeover, you can snag some cane webbing from Amazon for $6 per foot to use over the glass (you will need roughly 12 feet). Amazon also sells binder cane for $36.01 a bundle, which you can use to create the border around the cane webbing squares. You could also use half-round trim to finish off the edges.

Measure the size of the cabinet's glass windows. Cut eight pieces of webbing to size to cover each of the glass windows on the BRIMNES. After plugging your glue gun into the wall and allowing it to heat to the proper temperature, glue each of the cane webbing pieces onto the glass. Next, cut your binder cane into pieces that are the length of each side of your cane webbing rectangles. Use those binder cane pieces to create a border around each of the cane webbing rectangles with the help of your glue gun.

You can also take this hack to the next level by painting the cabinet. You can select any color, but if you would like to stick with the boho look, consider opting for earthy tones. The trick to painting IKEA furniture's difficult surfaces, like the particleboard the BRIMNES is made of, is using the right paint. Oil-based enamel paint is best for particleboard. You can also swap out the knobs for something like these half-moon handles from Etsy for $9.8. Eager for more IKEA hacks?
