Save Money On Fall Decor & Try This Unique Halloween Pool Noodle DIY Instead
If you love adorning your home for the spooky season, you know that autumn and Halloween decorations are typically expensive. Luckily, you can save some cash by making your own pumpkin wreath. For this project, you'll upcycle cheap pool noodles into festive fall decor. All you'll need are a few orange Halloween pool noodles from Dollar Tree for $1.25, some hot glue, and a metal pumpkin wreath form from Walmart for under $4. While you can use a green pool noodle to create the stem of your foam pumpkin, you could also simply paint over some of the orange foam with a dark green color to avoid having to buy more noodles.
Decorate this simple craft further with other Dollar Tree items to make it totally unique or add a spooky vibe. For example, you might simply insert a Halloween glitz screw pick next to your stem to look like vines. The glitter witch hat picks could also add a little spooky flair. Alternatively, you might use construction paper or scrap fabric to create a jack-o-lantern face for your faux gourd. If you're doing this project with children, you can easily transform it into a Mickey Mouse pumpkin by creating the classic face on the front and gluing foam pumpkins onto the top for ears. However you choose to customize it, this DIY idea on how to use pool noodles makes the best Halloween decor or a cute autumn decoration that's perfect for your front door.
Crafting your pool noodle fall decor
Start by cutting long slits all the way down one side of your orange noodles with an x-acto knife. Then, cut the noodles again to match the size of the wire pieces of your pumpkin wreath form, except for the very outside rings. Slip your foam sections over the wire pieces, adding hot glue into the slits to hold everything together. You may want to press the edges of the noodle together slightly after applying the glue. With a full-size noodle, wrap the slit around the outer wire of the pumpkin, going all the way around the shape except for the stem. Glue this pool noodle in place as you work.
Alternatively, you might cut your pool noodles completely in half vertically, then adjust the size to fit your frame. Glue these pieces onto the front of the wreath over every wire, including the outsides, and attach the noodles side by side as well. This method creates a fuller look for your pumpkin and may work better for incorporating a face, as there shouldn't be any gaps between the foam. Now, you can either cut off a small disc of a green pool noodle to glue to the wire stem or use a painted piece of your orange noodle. This is a great way to use up leftover paint from other projects. Finally, add your unique decorations, a face, or leave your pumpkin as-is. Hang your project on your front door to bring colorful fall vibes to your porch on a budget.
