Make Use Of Old Newspaper With A Beautiful Floral Wall Decor DIY
Paper flowers can be a beautiful accent for your home to create a whimsical and romantic vibe. They also make gorgeous decorations for all sorts of parties and special events like weddings. While you can purchase paper blooms in many sizes from party retailers, you may already have the perfect materials at home to make your own. By cutting up old newspapers like in this YouTube tutorial from Wow Decoration, you can assemble them into easy, giant DIY paper flowers for almost next to nothing with a pair of scissors and some adhesive.
Not only is this an excellent way to repurpose old newspaper that might otherwise end up in the trash or landfill, but these gorgeous paper flowers can be created in custom sizes and colors that fit your décor. Since they are cheap and easy to make, you can create as many as you'd like for distinctive wall hangings and decorations. Because newspaper spreads can be quite wide, you can also make them in very large sizes not possible with other papers.
These beautiful oversized flower pieces are great for covering a large, boring wall or using as decorative accents on the tables at your next party. For a perfect photo backdrop, cover an entire wall with them. Smaller versions are great as paper accents on handmade cards and gift-wrapped packages. You can also combine them with other kinds of large paper flowers, like these beautiful coffee filter roses, for variation.
Creating newsprint flowers
To make large flowers out of ordinary newspaper, begin by cutting the paper into petal-like shapes, both large and small. For a finished flower about a foot wide, you will want your larger outer petals to be at least six inches in height. Use scissors to create a ruffled or scalloped edge that resembles a real petal. You will then need several smaller petals that will form the insides of the flower. When you have them cut, begin by gluing the base petals together, and then add in the others, working inward toward the center.
As you work, softly curve the petal papers upward to achieve three-dimensionality. When you arrive at the center, fashion a smaller petal into a paper cone, adding other petals around to fill it out before gluing it in the center. You can also make another fun version that begins with a circular cardboard base, with glued paper cones making up the flower petals, which are layered with segments of newsprint folded accordion style like a fan.
To add soft, delicate color, soak your petals in tea or a mix of water and food coloring, and allow them to dry before assembling. You can also apply acrylic paint to the flowers before or after assembly for more vibrant color. Adhere them to the wall with a tack or small finishing nail concealed in the folds, or use double-sided tape.
