Turn Laundry Pod Containers Into Spooky DIY Jack-O'-Lanterns For Halloween Fun

While the aisles of many retailers begin to fill up with endless options for Halloween décor as early as midsummer, sometimes the cleverest and most creative options for making your home spooky come from things you already may have. DIY projects for seasonal decorations are numerous, including many ingenious projects that use upcycled and repurposed items that may have otherwise ended up in the trash. YouTube DIYer @hip2save recently showed off a great use for the large plastic containers used to hold Tide Pods for your laundry. By making a few modifications, you can turn them into adorably scary glowing jack o' lanterns for next to nothing.

This project is perfect if you're looking for fall décor on a budget. Made of thick and sturdy plastic, the jack o' lanterns are perfect for outdoor decorations as an alternative to real or plastic pumpkins. They are also on the slender side, which means they fit on shallow shelves, mantles, and other places inside your home to offer an eerie glow that befits the season perfectly.

Making a Tide Pod jack o' lantern

To transform your Tide pod container into a fun jack o' lantern, begin by removing the label from the orange plastic jug. Soak it in soap and water, then remove the adhesive, using some Goo Gone if the stickiness is especially tenacious. Once your jug is clean, create your design on the front. You can use a Sharpie or black acrylic paint to draw and color it in, or you can employ black adhesive vinyl or paper that will work to cut into shapes like eyes, nose, and mouth. While the YouTuber's design is simple, you can get as elaborate as you like, carving your vinyl or drawing full horrific scenes like spooky landscapes and favorite horror film characters. For a finishing touch, place a battery-operated tealight inside.

If you buy similarly shaped pods in other colors, you can also paint them orange with acrylic or spray paint to get a similar look. White laundry pod containers, however, also make perfect ghosts. Or you can turn brilliantly green Gain brand containers into a fun witch or Frankenstein. For great a great Halloween decoration on a budget, stack several on top of each other and add some hot glue for a stack of spooky figures to place next to your door. For another cheap and easy Halloween decoration project, make an adorable black cat with any regular laundry detergent jug.
