HINOMI X1: The Office Chair That Combines Comfort And Style While You Work

It's no secret that working from home has its perks; after all, you can't beat that commute. But sitting in the same place all day isn't easy, especially if you have a sub-par desk chair. Besides just being uncomfortable, an subpar office chair can also have long-term consequences for spinal health. Improper support can strain your back and neck muscles, overstretch your spinal ligaments, and even put pressure on delicate spinal discs. A comfortable and supportive office chair is a must-have for anyone whose career or hobby requires long hours at a desk, but selecting the right chair is no small feat. After all, aesthetics are vital for an inspiring home office, and there's no one-size-fits-all for the perfect desk chair. If you've been on the hunt for the best chairs for your home office, you've probably heard of Hinomi, a top-rated Singaporean brand praised for their adjustable ergonomic office chairs.

When this brand reached out to House Digest with an offer to try their Hinomi X1 Ergonomic Office Chair, I was thrilled to make the switch! My previous desk chair was a $20 thrift shop find, and while it did bring a nice vintage charm to my home office, it certainly hadn't done my posture any favors over the years. Here's how my experience went with setting up, adjusting, and testing the Hinomi X1 chair, and my final verdict on whether this highly-rated chair was really up to the task.

Setting up the Hinomi X1 Ergonomic Office Chair

Unlike most corporate offices, embracing personal style is key for a unique home office setup that will inspire your creativity. The Hinomi X1 Ergonomic Office Chair can suit your aesthetic with three different color options: black, gray, or pink. It also comes in small, medium, and large sizes. It's important to select your proper size depending on your height, but the chair is also adjustable at multiple points to ensure a great fit. I was happy to learn that the chair came in pink, which would best complement my home office, but I will note that it's not the "pinkest" pink chair, and instead looks more like a subtle blush shade.

When the chair first arrived on my doorstep, I quickly noticed how large and heavy the box was, which makes sense, considering the chair weighs a hefty 73 pounds. Needless to say, it was very helpful to have a second person nearby when moving the box inside and lifting each piece of the chair from its packaging. The product came mostly assembled, consisting of around four main segments that just needed to be attached together. The picture instructions were clear and easy to follow, and the included QR code video assembly guide was even more helpful. All in all, the chair was unboxed, set up, and ready to use within about 30 minutes.

Assessing the materials and making adjustments

Immediately after setting up the chair, it was clear to me that Hinomi used very thoughtful materials in its design. The chair base and wheels have an aluminum alloy frame, with flexible thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) panels to give the chair extra comfort and flexibility while in use. The seat, backrest and headrest are a breathable woven mesh that feels smooth, durable, and supportive — no saggy bottoms here! According to the product description on Hinomi's website, this chair will last over 12 years with adequate care — after feeling the high-quality materials for myself, I believe it.

When it comes to designing a home office, comfort is king, and the Hinomi X1's adjustable features make it easy to set up a home office you'll definitely want to work in. I am 5'3" in height, and I received a size small chair, recommended for users between 5'1" and 5'6" tall. Because I have a relatively short torso, it can be difficult to find chairs that fit just right, but the Hinomi X1 Ergonomic Office Chair struck that rare "Goldilocks" zone. This chair offers adjustability in 14 key areas, including seat height, seat depth, backrest height, lumbar and neck support, armrest height, tilt, angle, and more. The included usage guide included ergonomic tips that were very helpful to ensure amazing support, especially if you've never tried an ergonomic office chair before. It only took about 15 minutes for me to find the perfect custom fit.

This chair deserves a sitting ovation

When it was finally time to take a seat, I was blown away by how comfortable this chair is. My lumbar spine felt totally supported, and with a secure backwards lean that easily locks into place, it was hard to resist closing my eyes for a little catnap! The swivel and wheels glided effortlessly across my concrete floors and even managed well on a low-pile rug. The extendable leg rest is a dream for people like me who frequently sit cross-legged or leaned back, allowing for healthy blood circulation – no more sleepy legs. Even after a full day's work, I still felt comfortable in this chair. For its easy setup, durability, craftsmanship, and comfort, I'd say the Hinomi X1 is second to none.

Of course, in the interest of fairness, there are some caveats worth mentioning. Some reviewers have noted that the chair fits slightly larger than expected, and even in the size small chair, I needed most adjustments on their shortest setting. If you're unsure about which chair size to order, I'd recommend sizing down. Additionally, another chair model comes in more eye-catching colors like ice green, gaming yellow, and coral red. It's my hope that Hinomi will expand the available color options for the X1 model someday. Lastly, at just under $700, this chair can seem pricey for many, but I feel it's a worthwhile investment for anyone who spends hours at their desk, whether you're an artist, architect, writer, or gamer. For what you spend upfront, this amazing chair feels like it could save you hundreds in future chiropractor appointments.
