Usher In Fall With This Easy DIY Festive Forest-Scented Toilet Bomb
We are heading towards fall, and many people are already looking for a way to add seasonal scents to their homes. That could mean anything from cooking a cinnamon and apple simmer pot to cleaning with pine-related products, but what about making sure your toilet is even in on the holiday spirit?
Enter the toilet bomb, which is essentially a cleaning bath bomb for your commode. These bombs are made up of supplies such as baking soda, which acts as a mildly abrasive cleaner and good deodorizer, and citric acid to help dissolve hard water stains and whiten your toilet in no time, as well as essential oils that can help kill germs and leave behind a fresh, clean scent.
The idea behind the toilet bomb is that you will simply be able to drop it down in the toilet water, and it will immediately start to fizz, just like a regular bath bomb. But instead of soap for your body, these bombs will release all sorts of cleaning agents (plus, in this case, some holiday scents) to help you hate toilet cleaning a little less. It is a simple way to both clean and make the space smell better, and we call that a total win-win.
How do you make a toilet bomb?
To craft your holiday-scented toilet bomb, start by gathering your supplies. This easy recipe yields 20-30 toilet bombs, depending on your ice cube tray size. Typically, a standard-sized ice tray works well for this project. You'll also need a cup of baking soda, half a teaspoon of vinegar, a quarter cup of citric acid, a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide (an eco-friendly disinfectant), and about 20 drops of your favorite essential oil. You can use any sort of pine-scented essential oil (we are going for something that smells like a fresh Christmas tree), cinnamon, or whatever else reminds you of the holidays.
Start by mixing the baking soda and citric acid before slowly introducing the vinegar and hydrogen peroxide to create a clumpy concoction. It should hold form in a loose ball but may be a little flaky. Use a teaspoon to portion this mixture into your ice cube trays, then let them dry overnight in a cool spot where it won't be messed with. Store them in an air-tight jar or plastic baggie so they don't lose their shape.
When ready to use, drop 1-2 bombs into the toilet bowl. As they fizz, you should be able to smell the sweet, holiday-themed scents wafting through the air and, when done, give the bowl a good scrub. This should help take care of stains as well as leave your bathroom smelling fresh as can be. Feeling adventurous? Pick a different holiday and whip up an essential oil blend that reminds you of that particular event, such as orange and cinnamon for Thanksgiving or floral notes for Easter!
