Avoid Cluttered Drawers & Tangled Jewelry With A DIY Egg Carton Organizer

If you don't have a proper jewelry organizer, your necklaces and bracelets don't stand a chance. It seems like the slightest bump in the drawer can cause your chains to tangle, creating a frustrating mess inside your dresser. However, if you're not ready to spend good money on a fancy organizer, you can use something you were going to throw away in the kitchen instead. Rather than tossing out your egg carton when you're done with it, repurpose it to organize and store your valuables.

This is a great way not only to keep a carton out of the landfill but also to spend zero money while getting all your jewelry in order. To pull it off, all you need to do is cut the egg carton in half, removing its top. Then, simply put it in your drawer, and use each separate compartment to stow individual bracelets, necklaces, and pairs of earrings. You can also use the raised bumps between the cups to hold rings. However, perhaps you like the organizational power of an egg carton but aren't a fan of its aesthetic. If so, find out a few ways to personalize the carton so it looks a little less like repurposed recycling and more like a customized organizer. Furthermore, perhaps you don't want to store your jewelry in the carton. If so, find out some other egg carton storage hacks for a more organized home.

How to use an egg carton for jewelry organization

This is a clever way to fix your problem without much effort, but you may want to jazz up the appearance of the egg carton. The easiest way to do this is by painting it. If you want it to blend into your drawer, covering it in a neutral white, cream, or gray color will help it match any other organizers in the dresser. However, if you want to take this as an opportunity to be playful and get crafty, you can also paint it in bold colors and add designs to the individual cups.

Or, if you want to disguise the telltale bumpy texture of the carton, try decoupaging the organizer. You can cover it with some craft paper to add a print or color on top. To pull it off, all you need to do is choose a style of craft paper, cut it into smaller pieces so it's easier to fit into the individual cups, and use Mod Podge to adhere them to the carton. Make sure to smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles as they form. Once you're done, allow the carton to dry for 20 minutes and then apply a second layer of Mod Podge on top as a protective layer. An additional tip? Stick the egg carton to the surface of the drawer with double-sided tape or another adhesive material to keep it from sliding around.
