Dollar Tree's Wooden Cutting Boards Make The Most Stylish Bookholder

Looking for an easy way to display a few books upright on a nightstand, coffee table, or shelf? Bookends and bookshelves come in a variety of stylish options, but can often be too bulky for smaller spaces. YouTube DIYer Lovely Moments Creating shows off an ingenious hack for making a cute wooden holder for just a few books that looks as pretty as it is useful. She uses only two bamboo cutting boards from Dollar Tree, some wooden planks, and hot glue to create this cool holder that keeps books neat, organized, and in place.

For this DIY, you will need two Dollar Tree cutting boards, which measure 8.625 x 5.875 inches, making them the perfect size for housing standard hardcovers and paperbacks. The MDF wood pieces are also available from Dollar Tree and are available in a couple of different widths at 5.5 inches and 11 inches, the latter of which would work great for a larger organizer. This project requires no building or tools beyond a hot glue gun, though you can use some clamps to keep everything locked in place as the piece dries. The overall cost per book box is well under $5 in supplies, so you can make several of these DIY book ends on a budget for all over your home.

Creating a book storage rack

To create the book holder, place your wood piece on its end at the bottom of the cutting board along one side, gluing it in place. Take the second board and glue it to the other end so it's all one piece. When dry, you can fit several books or magazines inside the space without them falling over. While the DIYer leaves hers in its natural finish, you can paint the bamboo and wood to match your décor. For a luxe look, add other details like vinyl or wooden millwork appliques on the ends. Or decoupage the bamboo beforehand with old book pages for an exceptionally bookish décor piece.

Use these holders to display and store your books, or use them elsewhere in your home. Like other creative ways to repurpose book ends, they work great for holding other things like file folders on a desk, clutch purses on a closet shelf, or other cutting boards in a kitchen. They can also hold tablets, phones, and other devices upright, allowing you to run charging cords through the back for an inexpensive stylish charging station.
