The Eureka E20 Plus Shines At IFA – This Vacuum Just Keeps Getting Better

A household name since 1909, Eureka has long been a pioneer in the cleaning industry. From the earliest vacuum cleaners to the robotic versions of today, the company remains an innovative leader in the market. Case in point, the Eureka E10s were introduced at 2023's IFA and quickly earned its place in the year's Best Robot Vacuum rankings thanks to its quiet operation and innovative bagless empty station. And while the E10s still perform admirably, we can't wait to wave goodbye to them after seeing the Eureka E20 Plus at IFA 2024.

Innovation comes in many forms, and while the E20 Plus may not seem like a radical departure from last year's model, one thing is certain: The E20 Plus improves upon its predecessor in nearly every way. While the E10s were a beast on carpet but prone to thumping into obstacles, this year's model showcased stunning cleaning performance on a variety of surfaces and clearly-improved obstacle avoidance technology that will have it navigating through the most hectic of home floor plans. Even better, its anti-hair tangling design promises to be a revelation for pet owners. Robot vacuums showing such a marked upgrade in a single year are rare, indeed, even by IFA standards, solidifying the E20 Plus as a House Digest IFA Innovation Award recipient.

Eureka E20 Plus Features

The Eureka E20 Plus improves upon most of the features of the E10s, all of which are designed to make the task of vacuuming quicker and easier. The sleek, transparent base station offers a bag-free design that is easy to empty and will likely save you about $70 per year compared to robot vacuums that are designed to burn through as many bags as possible. When it's time to empty the dust tank, all you have to do is push a button – it really is that simple.

In addition to the cost savings, you'll have less dust to deal with after the E20 Plus has worked its magic. Almost all of the dirt and dust you vacuum up doesn't even reach the filter due to this upgraded model's multi-cyclonic separation technology. This helps the filter last longer and keeps suction strong, which is exactly what you want in a robot vacuum.

If your home mixes hard flooring with plush carpets, the E20 Plus was designed with you in mind. One pain point that countless consumers have experienced with robot cleaners that mix vacuum and mop functionality is soggy (often to the point of omitting a foul smell) carpets. Thankfully, the E20 Plus is equally adept at addressing soft and hard surfaces thanks to its innovative 10 mm Mop Lifting Functionality. When the device detects a rug (something it does automatically), its mop is raised 10 millimeters – precisely high enough to clean almost any carpet without leaving a soggy surface behind.

The Eureka E20 Plus showcases impressive obstacle detection and night vision

The bagless design of Eureka's E20 Plus is a game-changer, and its dust collector also scored plenty of praise at IFA. With a hefty two-liter capacity, you won't have to empty it as frequently as you would with your average bag-free robot cleaner setup; on average, you'll empty it about once every six weeks, meaning you'll spend less time bending over and emptying dust into the garbage can, and more time doing the things you love.

However, perhaps the biggest improvement over its predecessor is its ability to avoid obstacles. While the E10s were prone to bumping into things around the house – especially in dark environments – Eureka's new model showcases updated tech that makes cleaning remarkably efficient. Its DuoDetect AI™ 3D Obstacle Avoidance technology allows the Eureka E20 Plus to do its job similar to the way you'd do it — going around furniture and other obstacles thanks to a dual-line laser that acts as a nifty set of eyes. Once you program it to clean a room or your entire home, it will navigate its way around anything standing in the way, much to the delight of your nervous housecats. Even better, its enhanced night vision capabilities will guide it under beds and sofas or through your dark home while showcasing the same award-winning obstacle detection.

A robot vacuum for the future

At $499.99, the Eureka E20 Plus is an incredible value for everything it offers — and it offers a whole lot more than its predecessor. One of the most important upgraded features of this model is its superior suction, representing a 100% improvement over the E10s. This means 8000 Pa of power not only easily sucks up dirt and dust, but is powerful enough to lift larger food debris like dog food morsels your poodle leaves behind. Speaking of your poodle, this model comes equipped with an anti hair-tangling brush with an anti-wrap rate of 94% (that's a 14% improvement over its predecessor). The rubber roller has none of the bristles that make tangling an inevitability — a smart design choice that ensures it is able to pick up hair without missing a beat.

Robot vacuums and wet mops were front and center at IFA this year, but it soon became clear that many of 2024's updated models offer only minor improvements over their predecessors. Thankfully, this is far from the case with Eureka's E20 Plus. Not only did Eureka drastically update everything that was holding last year's model back, they improved in areas where the E10s actually excelled. Simply put, if you're looking for a robotic cleaner that is capable of innovating your routine and simplifying your life, this definitely a model you have to try out for yourself.
