Closets have evolved in terms of functionality, especially when it comes to lighting. Budget-friendly solutions abound, and they often look good, too. Battery-operated and sometimes remote-controlled, fairy lights can bring a whimsical charm to your closet, creating a warm and inviting space that will surprise and delight the eyes. The glowing strands may not provide the best task lighting, but homebodies love the mystical, magical effect. White lights of different sizes and shapes are the most popular, with colored lights right behind (some just use Christmas tree lights). 

Generally speaking, you can display the lights in one of three ways — draping them across a closet's wall or ceiling, wrapping them around items inside the closet like rods or storage boxes, or gathering them inside something, like an intentionally placed glass jar. When hanging, amateur decorators recommend using Command products, including hooks, mini light clips, and strips.

Some have taken the trend a step further, transforming closets into mini-getaway spots lit with fairy lights. Seating is usually comfortable, with soft pillows — often fluffy and furry — and blankets. Some have backed the head of their twin-size bed into the closet and used fairy lights to enhance the drama. Photos of family and friends may be hung on the walls along with framed or unframed art. Laptops and tablets sit atop small pieces of furniture, and items that actually need to be stored in the closet are placed inside plastic organizers. 

There may even be a theme: TikToker @crimsbun predominantly used fairy lights in her "Coraline" closet makeover. But the lights are always the focus, no matter what's inside the closet. "This is where I go to escape and have a moment of peace," @greentangessasmr said in a TikTok, showing the inside of her closet with its artfully displayed jewelry, bookcase, and hanging vines, with fairy lights setting the mood.

Besides the backyard, bedrooms do seem to be the most popular living space for fairy lights. Those who live a better life taking in the twinkling vibe before nodding off have taken to putting them under beds and on walls, ceilings, curtains, headboards, and even bedspreads. It really is up to you and your imagination.
