DIY An Affordable Privacy Fence With TikTok's Genius Tarp Hack

Nosy neighbors are quite the nuisance, but you can prevent them from peeping into your home's outdoor space with a privacy fence. This layer of seclusion will help you create a quiet escape right in your backyard. Unfortunately, a privacy fence is not practical for every homeowner because they are often pricey. On average, they cost about $3,300 in total. You can obtain a privacy fence for much cheaper by following TikTok user @homestead_comedy's DIY project that involves using a large privacy tarp and three wooden posts to build your own fence. After securing the posts into the ground with the help of cement, you will need to attach the privacy screen to the posts with nylon rope, eye hooks, and cable clamps.

This affordable DIY fence makes it possible for homeowners on a budget to make their yard more private. If you do not like the finished product shown in @homestead_comedy's TikTok, feel free to adjust this DIY to better suit your preferences. For example, you may want to opt for a different color privacy screen. You can also paint your wooden posts any color that best fits your outdoor space. This DIY project is incredibly versatile as long as you are willing to get creative.

How to build your DIY privacy fence

Before building your fence, gather all of the materials shown in the video above. The Beige Fence Privacy Screen @homestead_comedy used is sold on Amazon for $97.76. Select whichever color screen you prefer. The wooden posts are available to order from Home Depot online for $29.57 each, but you may also be able to purchase them directly in store. You can snag a bag of 60 lb. Gray Concrete Mix from Home Depot as well for $4.48.

Consider using the Solid Braided Nylon Rope sold by ULINE for $29 to string through the fence. The ZAUGONTW 5 Inch Eye Hooks ($45.95 on Amazon) and ISPINNER 52pcs Cable Clamps ($14.99 on Amazon) will help you secure this rope to the wooden posts. After purchasing all of your materials, you will need to start out by installing your three wooden posts into the ground, evenly spaced. You should dig them 4 feet deep, just as @homestead_comedy did. Next, use your concrete mix to weigh the posts down.

Now, you are ready to hang your privacy screen. You will need to drill the eye hooks into the sides of your wooden posts, and string the nylon rope though those hooks and the holes in the screen using the weaving method shown in the TikTok. Attach the wire clamps as shown in the video to keep the rope in place as well. If you are interested in an alternative, you may also create a DIY privacy fence using old doors.
