Creative Ways To Repurpose A Pegboard For A Better Kitchen

Pegboards might just look like plain pieces of wood with a bunch of holes in them, but they're actually an affordable way to meet all of your organizing needs in every room of the house – including the kitchen. Once you add hooks, dowels, baskets, shelves, and brackets to a pegboard, your kitchen can become the tidiest room in your home. Try placing it in a drawer to organize dishes, transforming it into a snack grab-and-go station, or using it to display all your kitchenware.

From fancy-schmancy to simple and minimalist, pegboards can easily be customized to meet every organizational need you throw their way, making your kitchen both more functional and aesthetic. Typically made from wood, metal, or plastic, a pegboard's holes are generally spaced about 1 inch apart, and hole sizes can range from ⅛ inch for smaller items to ¼ inch for heavier items. They can sometimes even hold as much as 100 pounds total. These boards have a slew of functional uses in the home, like organizing your office supplies or tools in the garage. In the kitchen, whether you're trying to maximize space or you're a rushed parent looking to streamline the process of herding the kids out the door, we have a few creative ways to make a pegboard work for you.

How to turn a pegboard into a kitchen organizer

Perhaps our favorite, most brilliant way to use a pegboard is to improve kitchen drawer storage. For those with plenty of oversized drawers but a lack of cabinet space, throw a pegboard inside those deep drawers to stack your plates, soup bowls, and saucers. Cut the pegboard to fit the drawer's dimensions and use tall dowels to create custom compartments. This setup makes it easy to find what you're looking for and makes cluttered drawers a thing of the past by maximizing your available space.

For busy parents and kids, grab a pegboard and some wire baskets to make an easy grab-and-go snack area. You can hang the pegboard on a kitchen wall or in the pantry, add the baskets, and fill them with your kids' favorite snacks. They can grab some and then be off on their way (and so can you).

Pegboards can also show off some of your favorite kitchen items, especially if TikTok's solution to declutter your pots and pans was a bust. Hang a pegboard on a free wall in the kitchen and keep your pretty cookware and aesthetic utensils within arm's reach. It's a great way to free up precious drawer and counter space. Attach small baskets or shelves to hold spices, recipe books, hand towels, or special oils if your pots aren't splendid enough to display. An extra tip? Paint the pegboard to match your kitchen's vibe.
