The Stars Of Good Bones Are No Stranger To This Hot Kitchen Cabinet Trend

If you're even remotely dialed in to home decor trends, you'll know shades of blue are all the rage at the moment, particularly when it comes to cabinetry. Two HGTV stars who probably aren't surprised are the stars of "Good Bones," mother-daughter duo Karen E. Laine and Mina Starsiak Hawk. After all, they brought the color into one of their most memorable projects a few years ago.

"Good Bones" fans are likely to remember that back in the show's third season (which aired in 2018), Laine and Starsiak Hawk commissioned custom-painted moody blue kitchen cabinetry. While Starsiak Hawk told the homeowners it had been a major risk at the time, it certainly paid off. In fact, one of the homeowners' response to the new cabinetry was, "I'm obsessed with it" (via HGTV), and it's hard to get much better than that. Several years down the line, blue cabinets have become something of a staple in many homes, and even celebrities have tweaked this trend and tried it in their spaces. Case in point: Kendall Jenner's bold teal kitchen cabinets. Again, no surprise there.

Long short story, according to the cabinet companies, shades of blue are the trend to watch at the moment, so the "Good Bones" stars were ahead of the curve. The great thing about that is even if you aren't a celebrity or able to feature on "Good Bones," it's super easy to bring this trend into your own home. Boring kitchens, be gone!

It's easy to bring the blue cabinetry of Good Bones into your kitchen

When Mina Starsiak Hawk and Karen E. Laine opted for blue cabinets on "Good Bones," it was still a fairly novel concept. As such, it makes sense that they needed to go the custom route. If you're up for it, you can still do that. However, one major perk of blue cabinetry growing in popularity is that, these days, a number of paint companies offer it as-is.

For starters, there's Benjamin Moore's teal, used in Kendall Jenner's home and available on the brand's website for around $82 a gallon. Alternatively, for something more budget-friendly, Rust-Oleum has a very similar hue and is available on Amazon for just under $18. Otherwise, head to your local paint store to see if anything else catches your eye.

Whichever paint brand you settle on, you can rest assured that blue cabinets will add a pop of color to your kitchen. Speaking of the rest of your kitchen, if you need any ideas for how to make the most of the new color, you can use Starsiak Hawk and Laine's "Good Bones" project as a guide, and go with granite countertops, though some other countertops that pair best with blue cabinets are hardwood and gray marble. Either way, your kitchen is sure to be on-trend, and "Good Bones" approved!
