The Pool Noodle DIY That'll Bring Colorful Fall Vibes To Your Porch On A Budget

If you're looking for ways to add some fall decor on a budget to your porch, look no further than a few pool noodles and some faux foliage. All it takes is attaching some gorgeous fall-inspired leaves to the noodles. You'll then hang the decorations anywhere you desire with a temporary solution that's easy to install and remove.

First thing's first, we recommend using red, orange, or yellow pool noodles to avoid any bright colors that wouldn't match. As for how many you'll need, that will depend on your porch or front door. Three noodles may be enough if you just want to frame your front door, but if you're going to cover more of your porch, you may need more.

As for the foliage, there are two options you can go with. First, there's the faux leaf route, made up of individual leaves which you'll slot into the pool noodle itself. Amazon has a ton of options like maple leaves for $18, browning eucalyptus twigs for $16, and mixed flowers for $17. Of course, that can get pricey, as you'll need a lot — which is where the second option comes in: garlands. Again, Amazon sells a wide variety of these, going for around $15. Our suggestion is to do a combination of two garlands around each noodle and a few individual leaves or flowers to cover up any empty spots. Better yet, you could also take inspo from our DIY eucalyptus fall garland and pop some real foliage into the mix.

Connect your garlands to your porch

Once you're happy with how your garlands look, it's time to secure them to your door frame. All you need to do is find an exposed part on either end of each pool noodle and stick them on using Command strips (available on Amazon for around $14). Alternatively, if you were planning on only using individual leaves and flowers and no garlands, you can actually hang them before getting started with the foliage portion of the hack.

If you're struggling to get your decorated pool noodles to stick to your door frame or porch with the Command strips, a combination of zip ties and hooks and loops can work as well. Amazon currently sells one self-adhesive hook and loop option for just under $8. Attach the adhesive backing to your wall or door frame, create a loop using the hook and loop side, slide your zip-tie through, and use it over the noodle as normal. Just be sure to fluff your foliage around the zip-ties so they aren't noticeable.

Finally, depending on how much sun or rain your porch gets, it's not a bad idea to protect your porch decor with a weatherproof spray. After all, you didn't transform your porch into an autumnal paradise just for it to fade! Grab some Scotchgard Sun and Water Shield on Amazon for just under $9 and look forward to seeing your porch's decor all fall long. As a final touch, you can add battery-operated string lights as well.
