The Luxe-Looking Lighting Upgrade Your Plain Jane Floor Lamp Desperately Needs
If your floor lamp is in need of an upgrade, don't think you have to run out and buy something new. Au contraire, a simple hack can transform even the most boring of lights into something super luxe. That said, while this DIY yields expensive-looking results, it's anything but.
If you've ordered anything that arrived in a cardboard mailing tube, you're in luck, because that's the secret ingredient to this hack. The tube should be the same height as your floor lamp, because you'll pop it over the stem. If it's a little bigger, you can cut it. Ditto if it's too short — simply combine it with another mailing tube using hot glue. If you do need to add to the mailing tube or don't have one to begin with, Walmart sells 36-inch ones for $21. As for curved floor lamps, it goes without saying that a straight cardboard tube will pose some problems. That doesn't mean you have to sit this hack out, though — you could swap out the cardboard tube for a hollow pool noodle instead.
Once you have your mailing tube or noodle, the only other thing you'll need is some peel-and-stick wallpaper. Go with something that mimics a luxury finish, like a marble-inspired peel-and-stick, available on Amazon for $9. Luxe lighting, here we come.
Stick your wallpaper to the tube and you're good to go
As far as DIY projects go, this is arguably one of the easiest ones out there. Once you're happy with how the mailing tube or pool noodle fits over your light's base, pull it back off, stick the wallpaper to it, and you're good to go. Of course, peel-and-stick isn't the only way to do this DIY. If you're a fan of the beachy, coastal chic home interior trend, possibly a better option would be to glue wood-inspired pole wrapping to it. You can get a roll of this on Amazon for under $10, and could even add a stain, a la TikToker Lone Fox.
Alternatively, if your living room is more rustic luxe, another option is rattan cane webbing, also available on Amazon for $23. The caveat of these options is that you'll need to glue it to the tube, rather than simply removing adhesive paper from a peel-and-stick. Additionally, the wood wrapping would likely not work on a curved floor lamp. Having said that, it's still a super easy way to upgrade your lighting to something more luxe-looking.
As for the final step, consider whether you'll need a new lampshade that fits with the rest of your upgrades. Luckily, there are countless creative ways to give your old lampshade a fresh new look. Otherwise, head to Facebook Marketplace or your favorite home supplies store for something new. Who ever said luxe-looking lamps needed a hefty price tag?
