Bring Rustic Elegance To Your Dining Table With DIY Mason Jar Wine Glasses
The ubiquitous mason jar comes in clutch for everything from canning to holding flowers, but if your mason jar menagerie is getting a bit crowded, you can also use these useful vessels for crafts. If your massive collection of mason jars has been gathering dust, then consider transforming some jars into charming stemmed wine glasses that are sure to be conversation starters. While wine glass mason jars are available to purchase from Amazon for $25, you can make your own for a fraction of the cost with just a few jars, some old candlesticks, and an adhesive.
To begin, go to your mason jar storage organizer or wherever you keep your extra jars and pick out a few of different shapes and sizes. Don't worry about grabbing lids. Clean and empty glass jars from your recycling will also work. Then, find a few old candlesticks. These can be made of metal or glass and can also be in a range of sizes. If you don't have any, be sure to check your local thrift stores, as second hand shops and garage sales often offer a variety of candle holders for low prices. Besides that, all you need is a hot glue gun or another adhesive like E6000 that sticks to both the glass of the mason jars and the material your candlesticks are made of.
Constructing your mason jar wine glass
First, make sure your mason jars and candle holders are clean and dry, providing the best surfaces possible for the glue to stick to. Then, consider which jar sizes and shapes pair best with which candlesticks. Place different jars on different candle holders to see how the different sizes and materials complement each other. Once you've found a pairing that works well together, use your adhesive or glue that works on glass to secure the bottom of the jar to the top of the candle holder. Be sure to follow all safety instructions for the glue or epoxy you're using. Once your glue dries, your new mason jar wine glass should be ready to use.
Of course, you can also add additional elements to your wine glass if you want. Glass or other transparent candlesticks can be filled with anything from LED lights to glitter to small toys before you secure the mason jar on, allowing for a variety of customized looks. If you don't like the material your candle holder is made out of, consider tying or wrapping it with burlap ribbon (available at Dollar Tree) or any twine you have around the house for a country chic touch. Finally, place one glass at each place setting on your dining table to decorate the space.
