Create A Handy Handwashing Station For Your Garden With This Genius TikTok Hack

Gardening produces beautiful plants that brighten up your home, but things can turn ugly when your hands become caked with soil. Dirty hands or gloves are an inevitable part of gardening that can be particularly frustrating for homeowners who do not have a handwashing station installed outside of their homes. You can, of course, wash your hands in a sink indoors. However, heading back inside each time you need to wash a bit of dirt away can feel burdensome. Luckily, TikTok user @guru_says revealed that you can easily create your own handwashing station by filling an old laundry detergent dispenser with soapy water and placing it on top of a brick for easy access.

After assembling this clever hack, you can wash your hands right in your garden by simply pressing the release button on the container so that the soapy water flows out. Wet your hands underneath the water, rinse the soapy water off with a hose if needed, dry your hands with a clean rag or paper towel, and you should be good to go. This DIY is an affordable alternative to items like the Karl Home Outdoor Sink, which is priced at around $99 on the Home Depot website. In comparison, the handwashing station shown in the TikTok video is free to assemble for the many gardeners who already have all of the necessary materials on hand.

As you can see in the TikTok posted by @guru_says, building this DIY is super simple. You will need to fill your laundry detergent dispenser with soapy water using soap and either a garden hose or a faucet in your home. Then, you should be fully set to place it on an elevated surface and put its handwashing abilities to the test. If you do not already have this type of detergent container, you may want to purchase one to use for this DIY after you have gone through all of the product. Feel free to snag it at your favorite supermarket. 

You can also have one shipped to your home from Amazon for around $14. However, there is a chance that you would not use any of the detergent brands that come in a plastic dispenser like the one shown in the video. In this case, feel free to purchase a drink dispenser to use for this project instead. The Elsjoy Plastic Drink Dispenser (about $18 on Amazon) should work just fine. You can also opt for the Green Stainless Steel Beverage Dispenser (about $10 from World Market) if you would prefer something more decorative. If you do not have a cinder brick to repurpose for your home garden, consider purchasing one from Home Depot or Lowe's for about $2.50. However, you could also place the dispenser on an upturned bucket or a plastic storage container instead. 

This DIY can be customized even further by spray painting the dispenser a color of your choice. You can really get creative by choosing a shade that compliments the color scheme you selected for the pants in your garden.
