HGTV Star Christina Hall's Unique Bathroom Design Is Serene Enough To Be A Spa

The bathroom is one of the most frequently used rooms in a home. With most people starting and ending their day there, it's estimated that we spend over two years of our lives in the bathroom. And yet, the bathroom can be one of the most overlooked rooms when it comes to interior design and creating a beautiful and cohesive style. If you're looking for a bathroom remodel idea that will inspire you, you'll want to see Christina Hall's spa-worthy bathroom design from HGTV's "Christina on the Coast" season 5, episode 7. For the five-star-resort style bathroom, Hall utilized elements like a double vanity with stylish LED mirror lights and a showstopping wet room complete with two shower heads, plus a soaking tub, built-in lighted shelving, and a built-in bench. The wet room is enclosed behind frameless shower doors with a black handle that perfectly echos the bold black shower fixtures in the wet room.

Christina Hall's clients for this episode wanted to bring the feeling of being on vacation into their home, and that's exactly what she delivered by doubling the bathroom in size and designing a bathroom fit for a resort. "I cannot believe that bathroom that looks like a spa is actually my bathroom that I get to come home to every day," said homeowner Terri. Below, we break down this luxurious bathroom remodel, help you decide which elements you should steal, and share tips to create a luxurious spa-like bathroom of your own without breaking the bank.

Hall's serene spa-like bathroom design

Christina Hall spared no expense for her clients' bathroom remodel. They wanted that vacation vibe at home, and she knew the existing tiny primary bathroom with one sink and a shower directly next to the toilet wouldn't cut it. Sam, one of the homeowners, complained that his elbows would hit each side of the glass, and he couldn't bend down in his old shower, so the first thing Hall did was to double the room in size. Since the couple wanted to consider adding a wet room to the bathroom, inspired by one they saw during their vacation in Tulum, that's exactly what Hall did. She moved the toilet to the other side of the room and put up a wall divider to visually separate the toilet from the rest of the space.

The elegant wet room was the renovation's focal point and solidified the HGTV designer's desired luxurious resort spa feel. "I love the floor-to-ceiling marble, that's what really gives it that spa-like zen feel," Hall shared. "And the fact that we ran it behind the mirrors looks really luxurious." The designer added, "I love the penny rounds on the floor. I think that made a huge difference too. It adds like a little bit of a modern feel, some texture that also warms it up." She also highlighted the LED light-up mirrors, the double vanity, and the dark wood cabinets with brass hardware, which added more warmth to the otherwise cool-colored bathroom.

How to steal the look and what to skip

If you're feeling inspired by Christina Hall's bathroom makeover, and you're hoping to get the resort spa feel at home, you don't necessarily have to grab the sledgehammer and do a full remodel. Building a wet room with two shower heads and a freestanding tub is a definite way to recreate the spa feel, but this is a very costly upgrade to an existing bathroom and can cost upwards of $30,000 depending on the complexity of the plumbing, the materials, and the labor cost (per Angi). If there are two upgrades we recommend, it's doing as Christina Hall did and ensuring that the shower space is big enough for comfortable daily showers and making sure the shower and toilet are spaced appropriately apart from the other.

Thankfully, there are other ways to make your bathroom feel like a spa without breaking the bank. You can find a dimmable bathroom mirror for under $100 on Amazon, making it a relatively affordable upgrade. You can also give your bathroom cabinets an upgrade by painting them in dark gray and upgrading the hardware to brushed nickel to mimic Hall's. Also, if you want to steal Hall's opulent marble floors and floor-to-ceiling marble walls, using a marble effect porcelain tile is a more affordable way to get the look. Other little touches like a waterproof acacia wood shower bench and decorating with fresh eucalyptus are also options for spa-worthy bathroom decor on a budget.
