Turn Toilet Paper Into A Showstopping Flower Canopy With This Simple & Stunning DIY

Social media has no shortage of clever DIYs from recycled items. For instance, there are plenty of ways to make use of your empty toilet paper rolls with creative home organization DIYs; but what if you could utilize the toilet paper itself to create a whimsical decoration for your bedroom? You already have what you need in your house to create these dreamy drop downs that can be added to your canopy. All you need to recreate this decor from @leyla.tavas on TikTok is some toilet paper, a string, and scissors. With these supplies, you can build the sweetest canopy hangings that look like they're from a bougie boutique!

To start, you'll need a full roll of toilet paper. Let yourself splurge on this: get the double ply soft brands that don't rip as easily, like Charmin Ultra Strong or Quilted Northern. You are going to want to cut these into flower shapes, so start by folding one square of toilet paper in half horizontally, then cutting this into six small squares. These you will fold twice to make a smaller square, and then cut the open edges into a rounded shape. When you reopen this piece, it should look like a four petaled flower. Also cut a small hole in the center. This will become the bottom of your hanging piece. Make several of these, then fold another square horizontally but only cut four squares, fold these into quarters, and trim the slightly larger pieces into the flower shapes.

Build your canopy decor to look like conical blooms

Take your string and thread it through the middle of your smallest flowers gently, then lace the others on from smallest to largest so the biggest "blooms" are at the top of your string. If you struggle to thread the string through your flowers, try using a large needle like one of the Plastic Sewing Needles on Amazon that comes in a 50-pack for less than $6. The finished product should look like a tiered hanging floral cone, much like a hydrangea or similar conical flower bunch. You will then use your fingers to shape each petal so the flower canopy doesn't allude to toilet paper so much as decorative tissue.

You can continue making as many as you want; just make sure to leave enough string at the end of each so you can tie them around your canopy's bars or the fabric itself. If you don't already have a canopy, find out how to DIY one over your bed. Space the floral strings out so the final effect looks both whimsical and ethereal. If you want to add a pop of color for a different approach to this DIY, you can look online for colored toilet paper, which used to be all the rage and can still be found on Amazon, like the Renova Red Label Maxi Toilet Paper. Six rolls in bright pink cost about $18. You could also use another cloth material or tissue paper instead.
