This Ergonomic Office Chair From Sihoo May Be Your New Favorite Seat In The House
Having a desk job can create some disadvantages for the full-time worker. An obvious one is that your derriere is planted in an office chair for most of eight hours, five days a week, which can lead to various health problems. Combining a sedentary work day with a hard or otherwise not-so-comfy chair can worsen matters, putting excessive pressure on your lower back and buttocks. Responding to the need for comfort and support while seated at a desk all day, Sihoo designed the Doro S100 Ergonomic Office Chair with Dual Dynamic Lumbar Support.
The Sihoo Doro S100 retails for $549.99 and is on sale for $269.99 on the Sihoo website. Available in black or white, it features an independent backrest; 4D coordinated armrests; an innovative dual lumbar support system; a large, pressure-free, premium elastic mesh seat with depth adjustment; and a spacious headrest. And the icing on the cake: It comes with the option to recline up to 135 degrees, allowing you to kick your feet up between tasks. It might even add good feng shui to your home office.
But, is the chair as comfortable and nifty as it sounds? I had the opportunity to assemble and use this chair, so the short and simple answer is yes and yes. With the features and adjustment options, I found myself wanting to sit in this chair even when I wasn't working.
The Sihoo Doro S100 manual and YouTube instructions are easy to follow
The Sihoo Doro S100 comes with all the required tools for assembly, including a convenient T-handle hex wrench, so there's no need to grab your toolbox. Although I'm not a novice furniture assembler, I referred to the Sihoo assembly guide on YouTube to accompany the paper manual. The video guide does a great job of making the manual clearer and reducing the chance of error.
The first few steps involve attaching the seat to the backrest with a rear plate, as shown in the photo above. I recommend reading the measurement information very carefully in these steps to avoid selecting the wrong size washers (there are two). The armrest bracket and leg assembly steps were relatively simple. Just make sure to remove the black inserts from the tubes before screwing the legs onto the base. Otherwise, the screws won't line up with the holes. To insert the wheels, push them into the leg tubes while twisting them back and forth until they "lock" into place.
To insert the armrests into the brackets – the final step – I found it easiest to lie down under the side of the chair to insert the screws, but having a second person to hold the brackets while you add the screws is another option. If you're an experienced office chair assembler and don't make any mistakes, the full assembly process plus unboxing time should take roughly 30 minutes. Otherwise, it could take up to an hour or longer. It was at least an easier assembly process than the Sihoo Doro S300 we've tried before.
The chair offers ergonomic features with some pizzazz
I've sat in other ergonomic office chairs before, so I appreciated that the Sihoo Doro S100 included all the intuitive features I expected, but with some unexpected – and fun – adjustability options. The versatility of these features makes it compatible with people of various sizes and heights. I'm 5 feet, 4 inches tall and my stepson is several inches taller, and we were both able to adjust the chair to comfortably suit our heights.
The padded armrests adjust vertically and horizontally as well as inwardly and outwardly. To raise the armrests, pull up slowly until you hear them click into the next groove. To lower them, pull them up to their highest position and then slowly push them back down. For the horizontal adjustments, you can pull the armrests away from or toward your body. You can also push and pull them straight forward or backward. I thought the option to turn the armests toward my body enjoyable and oddly therapeutic.
I found the seat adjustment features easy to manipulate – easier than other office chairs I've sat in. Pull the handle under the seat to slide the seat back and forth, and pull the lever at the bottom of the chair upward to adjust the height. You can also pull this lever out to recline and push it in to lock it, which will keep the chair at a 90-degree angle. Keep in mind that the chair must be unlocked to recline.
The Sihoo Doro S100 offers a few bonus comfort and support features
When I sat in the Sihoo Doro S100 for the first time, I felt like I was sitting in a recliner at La-Z-Boy. I leaned back and immediately started spinning and playing with the adjustable features. I then stayed seated in the chair for a few hours as I wrote about it. In addition to the standard features you'd expect to find in an ergonomic office chair, the Sihoo Doro S100 offers a couple of bonus ones, including my favorite feature, the ability to recline up to 135 degrees. By the way, leaning back on a chair that reclines this far can alleviate pressure on your spine.
The accommodating backrest offers even more comfort, supporting your neck and shoulders while you work. The backrest offers five different adjustment levels to accommodate various heights. I found the recliner, combined with the spacious headrest, comparable to lounging in a cozy recliner at a movie theater.
Another bonus feature is the spacious omnidirectional dual-wing lumbar support area, which offered me flexible comfort as I shifted from side to side throughout the day. The set of mesh, springed attachments essentially hugged my lower back as I leaned back and adapted to my movements. For anyone with lower back problems, I imagine this extensive support would be an appreciated bonus. Despite the extra comfort this chair provides, however, I would still recommend standing up and moving around every 30 to 60 minutes.
A box-checking, multipurpose chair
The Sihoo Doro S100 is advertised as an office chair, but if you plan to keep it at home, you can use it in other rooms due to its comfort features. Even my cats enjoyed it! Over the weekend, I wheeled it all around my home, from the dining room to the living room to the sitting room. The wheels rolled well over ceramic tile; laminate wood, and even my machine-woven, synthetic throw rug.
Most online reviews for the Doro S100 Ergonomic Office Chair with Dual Dynamic Lumbar Support are positive, and rightfully so. The assembly instructions and video guide are easy-to-follow, and the process isn't very time-consuming. Its adjustability makes the chair a great option for people of various heights and sizes, and the added comfort features can lower the risks of discomfort. So, if you're looking for one of the best chairs for your home office with excellent lumbar support, stellar comfort, and the option to recline much farther than your old office chairs, the Sihoo Doro S100 just might check all your boxes.
