Create The Cutest Ghost Pillow On A Budget With TikTok's Creative DIY

Awesome Halloween decor is a must for the fall season, whether you are looking to go with a spooky and scary theme or a cute and whimsical vibe. Outfitting your home, however, can get expensive, with both real and virtual aisles of craft and home stores filled with perfect options as early as mid-summer. Fall throw pillows, in particular, are especially fun and cozy additions to your space. A recent ingenious TikTok from @allstylelife shows how to create a budget-friendly, adorable ghost pillow using only rope, adhesive, felt, and an ordinary pillow slipcover. The result is a distinctive and completely customizable piece of seasonal decor with a luxurious look.

Not only is this project less expensive than similar tufted and embroidered accent pillows available from retailers and handmade artisans, but it's an easy project that takes less than an hour to assemble and no sewing skills. Depending on the price of your cover, it can be created for as little as $10, making it a cheap and easy way to decorate for Halloween. You can also completely adapt the DIY to your decor, including customizing the pillow cover, the dimensions, and the kind of rope or threading you use. The pillows make a great accent for trendy boho-style Halloween decor when used alone or with a group of seasonal pillows.

Creating a ghost pillow

To create a simple ghost pillow, lay your pillow cover flat and begin with several lengths of rope that will serve as the outside of each ghost form. Place the rope in an arched shape. @allstylelife uses rows of ghosts evenly spaced across the square pillow, but you can also format them more staggered or create a mix of larger or smaller ghosts depending on the pillow shape. You can even place one larger ghost in the center of a pillow. Cut additional lengths of rope to fill in the ghost with additional layers. Secure each ghost in place with some glue. The DIYer uses gorilla glue, but you could also use hot glue or fabric glue. If you are worried about them coming loose and the pillow being washable, you could also secure them with a few stitches along each row.

When the ghosts are in place, trim the edges of the lengths to be even across the bottom, then use your fingers or a fine comb to give them a more frayed look. To finish, create two small circles of black felt for each ghost's eyes and use glue to place them near the top.

Ways to customize your pillow

This is a great way to get a cute spooky pillow with Halloween flair that perfectly matches your decor. Place it on a cream or taupe pillow cover as a great accent pillow for a neutral room, or choose something more colorful, like orange, in either base color or rope choice. For a luxe look, choose a textured pillow cover in fabrics like velvet, chenille, or knitted yarn. Patterned pillow covers are also a cute choice, so consider patterns like plaids and florals as a perfect field for ghosts. For a fun and distinctive holiday scene, choose a pillowcase that shows a landscape, like the Solekla Misty Forest Pillow Cover from Amazon for $10, or an interior scene to playfully add little ghosts to.

Pillow covers come in a number of sizes and shapes, including round, which allows you ample creativity in ghost placement. While the rope lends itself best to simpler shapes because of its thickness, other thinner and finer materials, like yarn or embroidery thread, while they will require more time, can be a great way to make smaller ghosts or vary the shape to create more intricate designs. Alternately, swap out the frayed edges for longer fringe by adding pieces vertically at the bottom.
