Get The Most Out Of Your Storage Drawers Using TikTok's Smart Arrangement

One thing about plastic storage drawers is that you can never have too many, especially if you're trying to maximize storage in a small home. But if you're low on space to begin with, you might not have many more places to stick another set of drawers. One TikTok hack involves stacking two Sterilite wide, three-drawer carts on top of each other, creating additional storage without taking up more floor space. It's a popular storage method for craft supplies, baby clothes, and other small items.

To use this method, remove the top plastic cover from one of the carts. Then place the other unit on top. You'll notice that they connect, with each of the four corners popping into place. This prevents the top unit from sliding right off of the bottom unit. However, the fact that these carts can stack together is actually just a happy coincidence. Sterilite didn't design them to be stackable, which you should keep in mind before using this hack.

Safety tips for stacking storage drawers

While some Sterilite drawers and bins are designed for stacking, this particular model is not. That means that there's no locking mechanism to keep the stacked units attached to each other and prevent them from falling over. The bottom unit also runs the risk of damage from the extra weight on top.

That said, many people opt to stack these anyway. The top unit happens to snap into the bottom unit enough for most purposes. But some people find that stacking makes the units less sturdy, noting that they're unable to hold much weight. If you put too much in the top unit, it can bend the plastic or wheels on the bottom and prevent the drawers from opening.

For best results, use this method to store lighter items (think socks, not books), put your heaviest items in the bottom drawers, and take off the wheels on the bottom unit. You could also add a 3M or velcro strip to keep the units more securely together. Or, to play it extra safe, stick to storage products that are specifically designed for stacking, like Sterilite's stacking drawers or countertop drawers, or Dollar Tree's collapsible storage baskets. Aside from stacking, there are plenty of other cabinet storage organization hacks that can help you maximize space and minimize clutter.
