Transform A Pool Noodle Into An Adorable Popsicle-Inspired Garland For Summer Parties
Is there anything a pool noodle can't accomplish or become these days? Simple but versatile, these toys have shown that an object is not limited to its original purpose, and while there could be a philosophical rabbit hole there, the point is that you can use pool noodles to create everything from door decor to seasonal wreaths. While the possibilities for foam crafts seem endless, one clever DIY makes for the ideal summer decoration that will elevate any party, BBQ, or just your home in general during the warm seasons. You can build a popsicle garland simply by gluing some popsicle sticks inside pieces of a pool noodle. The finished product looks even better than a store-bought cardboard option and will make your interior or exterior areas pop (pun intended). This budget-friendly project is easy, too, so you can make it in a matter of minutes.
To start this DIY, gather several pool noodles in varying colors. Then, purchase jumbo popsicle sticks and string, and you're ready to start your garland. The fun part of this project is that you can get as creative as you want or keep it simple. How much effort you put in is up to you, but the finished product will still be the summery decor you've been wanting.
Get creative with your pool noodle popsicles
If you want to keep the popsicles small, cut up your pool noodles in 3- to 6-inch cylinders. The best glue to use for your pool noodle hacks is a hot glue gun, but you can also use rubber cement. Once you've cut your sections, insert the popsicle sticks into the noodle's center and secure it with glue. Ensure the adhesive dries before using a pen, pencil, or even a chopstick to push through the top of your cylinder, about 2 inches down from the edge on the side opposite from where you attached the stick. This is where your string will rope through. Make as many of these as you want to build your festive garland.
To elevate this craft, you can play around with the size of the pool noodle, making longer pieces for bigger popsicles. You can then paint the exterior of the noodles, but a word of caution: use latex- or water-based products so the foam doesn't melt. You can also cut smaller cylinders, glue them together, and then paint them to make a Rocket Pop. Cut out "melting" shapes from poster board and super glue these around the bottom of the noodle to make it look like your popsicles are melting. You can even glue two of your small popsicles together for a clever double pop.
