Is IKEA's EKTORP Sofa Cover Still Available?

If you've been an IKEA superfan (like those on the r/IKEA subreddit) you may know that the Swedish retailer discontinued the beloved EKTORP line of seating — including the especially popular 3-seater couch — in the United States back in 2020. (Note: the EKTORP line is still sold in its entirety on other international markets including the U.K. and Europe). The sofa's appeal was largely due to its modest size, budget-friendly pricing, and removable slip covers that kept the piece clean and versatile. But since the discontinuation of the line of love seats and sofas, so came the discontinuation of all but one of the EKTORP cover options.

The EKTORP cover for the 3-seater couch is still available on IKEA's U.S. website in the color Lofallet beige, for only $79.00. While the price is a great deal compared to its alternatives, we understand that beige might not be the best couch color for your space. If you fall into that camp, you can turn to a number of resources beyond IKEA for a new cover.

Opt for a third-party, EKTORP-compatible cover

For EKTORP sofa owners who don't want to part with their iconic IKEA piece, but could use a little upgrade, there are manufacturers who have filled the slip-cover-shaped hole in the market. If you take to Amazon, a bevy of stores offer EKTORP slipcover dupes, but color choices remain limited to a few neutrals, with some more colorful exceptions like the red option from the Masters of Covers. And across the board, the pricing for a 3-seat cover on Amazon lands in the $200 range, more or less. This is a considerable markup from IKEA's pricing, but currently the best pricing available on the market overall.

Other stores have a larger variety of cover options in different fabrics, textures, and colors — but for an even steeper markup. For example, there are covers offered from $311 in a linen blend to $647 for pure French linen, on the Comfortly website. Another site called Bemz offers a whopping 140+ fabric and color options for EKTORP covers, but with prices ranging from $349 to $839. If it's in your budget, these premium third-party retailers may be a great option, especially if you want to achieve a certain interior design style and don't want your EKTORP frame to go to waste. But they are not so cost-efficient for those without $300+ to spend on an upgrade.

Alternatives for dressing up your EKTORP

Depending on why you want to replace your EKTORP cover, there are a few avenues to consider to quell your sofa woes. If the cover itself is worn past the point of repair and you're happy with Lofallet beige, then of course you can buy a new cover directly from IKEA. But if you're on a mission to change up the look of your couch entirely, it may be worth investing in one of the third-party options in a way that works with your budget.

That said, you can also customize your existing EKTORP (or a freshly purchased beige slipcover) with more colorful details or design-specific items like throw pillows. Choose the best throw pillows for your home by considering color, pattern, and fill. A throw blanket is another way to freshen up a sofa. By arranging your throw blankets on the back of your EKTORP, you can make a significant impact on the look of the couch. You can repurpose a blanket or pillows you already have on hand. Or buy them new without breaking the bank — you can find incredibly affordable options at retailers like Target. At the end of the day, you may be surprised by how just a couple of these small accents can change the aesthetic of your living room.
