Joanna Gaines' New Paint Collection Is On Par With One Of Today's Biggest Trends

Ever since putting modern farmhouse design on the map through her HGTV show "Fixer Upper," Joanna Gaines has been known for her neutral color palette. However, as the years have passed, her style has changed, expanding that go-to palette from soft creams and delicate grays to more robust and dark colors. This happened in tangent to "Fixer Upper" taking on more interesting projects, such as when Chip and Joanna bought a castle and released "Fixer Upper: The Castle," and when they purchased a hotel and aired "Fixer Upper: The Hotel."

Joanna tinkered with darker colors in those spinoffs and subsequently released paint lines that matched those color palettes. Now the Gaineses are onto their next project — a mid-century lakehouse on Waco Lake — and with it comes a new paint line, Magnolia Home Paint: The Lakehouse Collection. However, instead of focusing on dark greens and oranges like in The Castle Collection, it matches the biophilic "nature-inspired" trend of 2024 by featuring a range of blues, greens, and browns.

The biophilic trend has taken over in 2024 as more and more people want to feel connected to nature. This is translated to incorporating more earthy textures to the space, whether that's utilizing wooden furniture, marble accents, stone knick-knacks, or travertine end tables or lamps. It's also created through color, as more people gravitate toward greens, browns, and blues. That's exactly what Gaines' new Lakehouse Collection features, playing right into the fad. Let's take a closer look at the offerings.

Magnolia Home Paint: The Lakehouse Collection is perfect for the biophilic trend

Since the Gaineses' new lakehouse sits on a beautiful body of water, Joanna wanted to incorporate as many earthy elements in the house as possible. This not only translated through texture — primarily using wood and stone — but also through color. The designer focused on using greens, oranges, browns, and blues in the mid-century abode, helping bring the outside, in. And she released a paint collection to help fans achieve the same look.

"My new paint collection was inspired by our recent project Fixer Upper: The Lakehouse! Between the lake view and the beautiful trees that surrounded this home, I wanted to curate colors that would make for a seamless transition between the indoors and out," she shared in an Instagram post. "What we created in the end is a collection of nature-inspired hues that feel so inviting and grounding." These hues can work anywhere from a mid-century or '70s-leaning house, to one that wants to feel more connected to the outdoors. It's also still relatively neutral, relying on subdued rather than vibrant shades, making it less intimidating for those who don't typically experiment with color.

What The Lakehouse Collection entails

The collection is crafted by KILZ and is available to purchase either on Magnolia or in any Ace Hardware store. It has seven different colors but 25 different paint options. That's because in addition to interior paint selections, Gaines has also provided cabinetry paint for those who want to paint their kitchen cabinets, as well as chalk-style paint for those who want to paint wooden furniture. There is also exterior paint for outdoor projects. A gallon costs $58, and the colors come in three different finishes: eggshell, matte, and satin.

For light neutrals in the collection, you can choose between "Blanched," which is a warm beige; "Remote Trail," which is a camo green inspired by foliage; and "Juniper Tree," which is a warm, light green that "nods to secluded pathways and untouched landscapes," according to the product description. For browns, you can choose between "Wooded Acres," a dark brown with green undertones, and "Cognac," a light brown with red undertones. Lastly, for the blues, you can try either "Tranquil Waters," which is a light bluish-gray, or "Superior," which is a medium blue.
