Remove Unpleasant Sweat Stains With One Simple Ingredient At Home

If your favorite shirt has developed sweat stains, you may feel like it's too gross and embarrassing to wear — it can also be frustrating to let it go. While you may have thrown shirts out in the past because of embarrassing pit stains, you may not need to retire a sweat-stained shirt as quickly as you think. Sweat stains can be removed if you put in a bit of effort and use a simple ingredient that you probably already have in your home. That ingredient? Baking soda.

There are many wonderful baking soda laundry hacks that you can make use of, so it should come as no surprise that it can help eliminate these stains as well. While there are a few different household ingredients that banish sweat stains from your clothes, baking soda is one of the top to consider if you want to remove them quickly and effortlessly.

Getting rid of sweat stains with baking soda

The best way to remove sweat stains from clothes is to create a baking soda paste. To do this, you'll need to combine baking soda with warm water until it turns into a paste. Then, apply it to the stain and let it sit. You can use a toothbrush to do this. Letting it sit for 30 minutes is likely ideal for getting results. If you need a little bit of extra power, you may also want to add a bit of hydrogen peroxide to the baking soda and water as well, mixing equal parts of all three ingredients. You can then follow the same steps. After you're done, you'll simply need to wash and dry the clothes using your regular laundry machine settings.

In some cases, smells may linger even after removing the stains. To use baking soda to get rid of lingering sweat odors, mix one cup of baking soda with warm water to dissolve it. Then, add it to a bucket with a gallon of cold water. Finally, submerge your sweat-stained clothes in the water and let them soak overnight. Once you're done, you can drain the bucket and remove the clothes. As before, wash and dry your clothes normally after soaking.
