TikTok's Stylish Pool Noodle Hack Is Perfect For Organized Jewelry Storage
There are plenty of budget-friendly ideas for organizing your closet, but many design-savvy DIYs leave out one of the most important (and most frustrating) accessories: jewelry. If you're like many people, you probably have a stock of bracelets, bangles, beads, necklaces, chains, and more that you worry could end up hopelessly tangled in your jewelry box. Reports from several jewelry companies show that Americans are purchasing less luxury jewelry these days (via Reuters), so if you're not eager to splurge, it's even more important to protect the fine jewelry you already own. But you don't have to spend a ton of money to protect, organize, and display your jewelry. A TikTok hack shared by @upstyledaily shows how you can create your own charming jewelry stand with just a few items from your local dollar store. All you'll need is a pool noodle, a paper towel stand, fabric, and some hot glue.
With this handy TikTok hack, you can keep all of your bling neatly hung up and organized. Plus, the department store-style design makes it easy to clip and unclip jewelry or slide it off the plush stand — no fuss, no muss, and no tangles. It's surprisingly simple to build your own jewelry stand following @upstyledaily's DIY video, and a few design tips can make it look great in your space.
Make an easy pool noodle jewelry tree
In the TikTok video, the creator grabs a regular foam noodle for $1.25 at Dollar Tree, as well as a wire paper towel holder, also available at Dollar Tree for $1.25. You'll also need about ½ yard of fabric — any fabric will do, even upcycled t-shirts! To make the jewelry stand, start by cutting about a 12-inch segment of pool noodle. Cut out a rectangular piece of fabric that is slightly longer than your noodle piece and wide enough to wrap around it. Apply a line of hot glue along the noodle segment, then wrap the fabric tightly over the noodle, securing the ends with more hot glue. Once dry, use a craft knife to cut a slit all the way through the middle of the noodle segment, then slide it onto the paper towel holder so it floats parallel to your dresser or table. Repeat to add another row of storage.
One of the best parts about this hack is that it's easily customizable to suit your aesthetic. If the silver paper towel stand is too plain, jazz it up with gold spray paint or patterned washi tape. When selecting a fabric for the cover, choose a pattern that complements your home décor style. Gingham or floral prints can make your home feel like a fairytale cottage, while neutrals can help the stand blend into your room. For a glamorous, upscale vibe, you could even use faux fur or satin!
Adding extra functionality to your DIY jewelry stand
If you follow the formula shown in @upstyledaily's TikTok video, you'll end up with a lovely way to organize and store valuables with an unexpected Dollar Tree hack. However, the plain DIY is best suited for items that can easily be clasped or pulled around the pool noodle "arms." While this works wonderfully for bracelets, watches, and necklaces, it doesn't provide easy storage for earrings or rings. To easily remedy this, you could hang dangling earrings from one of the bracelets on the tree, and for stud earrings or finger ring storage, set the entire tree on top of a pretty thrifted plate or shallow catch-all bowl.
A standard pool noodle is usually around 2.5 inches in diameter, roughly 7.9 inches in circumference. Because of this, people with especially small wrists may also need to adjust the hack slightly to suit their jewelry size. If you struggle to fit your small bracelets and watches around the pool noodle arms, try slicing your pool noodle segment in half length-wise before wrapping it in fabric and popping it onto the stand. The results may not have the same rounded look, but it should make for a better fit for your jewelry.
