Use TikTok's DIY To Create A Rolling Washer And Dryer Pedestal For Around $100
With one final shove and tug, you finally manage to tug your washer-dryer combo from the wall to clean it, giving a sigh of relief. However, it doesn't have to be this difficult each time. Rather than yanking and pulling and potentially even risking hurting yourself, you could instead make the whole process of moving your washer and dryer much simpler thanks to a nifty DIY by @maryjo.onthego on TikTok, who shows how you can construct your very own rolling pedestal. Not only does it make it more straightforward to navigate your utilities around the room, but it's also useful for effortless cleaning and access to the back of your machines. So whether you're patching up maintenance or simply giving it a good dust, this platform will make using your laundry room more efficient.
All you'll need is some wooden lumber, four wooden blocks, a wooden board, caulk, a sand palmer, a miter saw, four castor wheels that can lock in place, white paint, and an electric drill and screws. You can grab some castors for $29.99 off Amazon and some wooden lumber from Lowe's starting at $6.98. For the wooden blocks, you can get some thicker lumber from Lowe's for $8.88 and cut them to size or find some similar wood blocks. These will be for the wheels, so just ensure they're big enough to have them fit on the end.
How to build your rolling dryer washer
First, you'll want to take the measurements for your washer-dryer unit so you know how big you need your pedestal to be, ensuring you leave some wiggle room on either side. Now you can take your miter saw and cut four border pieces to size, slicing at a 45-degree angle on each end. This will help them fit together seamlessly. Cut your block sections for the wheels at the same time, allowing a centimeter or two of extra height compared to your border pieces, as well as two support pieces that will sit inside the border next to your blocks. Now, you'll just need to cut your base piece to size, which should be ever so slightly bigger than your washer and dryer.
Once you have all the pieces you need, connect them all together. Start by screwing your four border pieces together before adding your square blocks to each corner and connecting them with your screws as well. After that, connect your support pieces in the same way, slotting them horizontally in the middle of your border to the side of your blocks on both sides. You can attach your wheels the same way on all four blocks, again using your drill and screws. For the final steps, caulk the inside where the pieces connect, let it dry, sand it down, and then finish with a lick of white paint.
Paint it a different color
Now, all you need to do is add your washer and dryer on top (this may take two people), connect everything up, and slide it into position. When you want to re-adjust it, simply unlock them. As a result, if you need to clean your washing machine or adjust it for any reason, your pedestal will help you do so. For some extra usability, and if you're good at DIY, you could add some drawers below the platform to store items and organize your laundry room. Just make sure that you lock the wheels when you come to use either of the machines; otherwise, it could be dangerous if the platform begins to drift off, as it could fall or disconnect.
Of course, alongside white paint, you could opt for a different color product. Likewise, to make it easier to slide around, you may even want to attach handles on the sides and at the front, which will help you maneuver it around. You can buy some black handles for $8.99 on Amazon. All that's left to do now is get building! However, one caveat to keep in mind is that to make this, you'll likely need an open garage space or a large, well-ventilated area to work in. If you don't, an open garden space will do the job (providing there is the weather for it).
