The Preferred Bathroom Color That's On Trend For 2024
If your goal is to get your bathroom on trend for 2024, then a paint job is the perfect way to get there. Since what feels like the beginning of time, white bathrooms have reigned supreme — white countertops, white toilets, white walls, and the list goes on and on. Beyond being the safe option if you're wary of color, white has always been the easiest way to spruce up a room. But the minimalist color trend may be on its way out, with the National Kitchen & Bath Association revealing that its annual report showed green to be the preferred bathroom shade of 35% of survey respondents, which was the clear majority (via Real Simple).
Founder and CEO of Native Trails Naomi Neilson seconds this, telling Forbes that a rebirth of color and texture is making its way into bathrooms across America, simply because the all-white bathroom is becoming dated (at least for now). "We are now witnessing a resurgence in the embrace of color and texture. Whether it's the warmth of natural woods, the sheen of copper or nickel, or the introduction of sinks and bathtubs with blue and green hues, homeowners are seeking to infuse pops of color and tactile elements into their spaces," Neilson explained.
Green bathrooms are taking over
It isn't just one shade of green that is making its way into bathrooms across the country. Earth tones are popular, as they naturally bring an air of relaxation. Comfortability and a sense of grounding are more precious than ever, and both homeowners and renters are bringing that energy into every aspect of their homes, including their bathroom. A lot of this also stems from versatility. No matter if you've gone with a rustic farmhouse aesthetic or something more modern and minimalist — earth tones fit right in, and the connection with nature effortlessly creates a soothing environment. Warm neutrals are also on the rise. Deep rich browns and grays, as well as moss greens, jades and olives are some of the most popular hues for a sophisticated yet serene look, especially if you're wanting something that will make you feel more zen.
This goes deeper than what color you paint your walls — especially if that's completely out of your budget. Implement shades of green or other earth tones in your tiles, cabinetry, and soft furnishings like bath mats or towels. Even adding more plants or artwork that emulates an earthy vibe is sure to do the trick.
Pairing different textures with green in your bathroom
Don't forget the importance of texture here. Once you've implemented green in your bathroom, you don't want to have a flat area that's simply filled with shades of the one color. Add dimension to a dull exterior with cohesive wallpaper patterns, grooved baskets, or shaped soap trays.
When it comes to green additions, the texture that immediately comes to mind is rattan. Beyond being both lightweight and durable, it has a timeless look that feels refreshing, similar to wicker. Another texture that's great to match with green is natural wood. Of course, if you're building a nature-inspired bathroom with green earth tones, wood is essential. Consider a wooden bath mat like the Utoplike Teak Wood Bath Mat, which retails for $53.99 on Amazon at the time of writing, or a bamboo-themed trash can and toothbrush holder set, which is currently $48.97 from Amazon. It's the little details that will surely create this oasis.
Both natural and textured stone will also fit nicely in a green bathroom. If you have the bandwidth, consider performing a wall treatment for any tiles in your space. The Home Depot has a variety of options that will ring true to your personality, in a variety of shades that can be made to fit whatever green or earthy tone you plan to use.
