The Popular Renovation Request Jenn Todryk Gets All The Time On 'No Demo Reno'

Jenn Todryk of HGTV's "No Demo Reno" has tackled many a renovation using and repurposing what people have rather than tearing it all down and starting from scratch. She has transformed bathrooms, bedrooms, and living rooms, but if there's one thing that commonly gets brought up, it's a request for extra countertop space. No matter the layout, it seems people struggle with limited space in the kitchen and don't even have a place to store essentials. Pantry space is also a common request, with Todryk being asked to repurpose or redesign existing pantries to make them usable.

There's a clear pattern here: Whatever area of the kitchen Todryk and her team are asked to renovate, the changes all come down to needing extra storage in one of the busiest areas of the home. First up, more countertop space. Many families or even those living alone struggle with a lack of space to put essential items like chopping boards or cutlery. In Season 2, Episode 2  of "No Demo Reno," titled "Out of the Gray," Jenn Todryk helped to give a family who moved from California a home that felt more like them.

She did this by opening up a previously underutilized section of the kitchen to create extra countertop space as requested and adding in even more counterspace on the other side. She also added a pop-out pantry. Though the room wasn't extended, by switching around where things were, Todryk was able to give the mom who loved baking the kitchen of her dreams. As proved with this renovation, it's not always about a lack of space, but about utilizing what you have to create extra counter space in your kitchen.

Secondly, pantry space. If you already have a pantry, the good news is that it's relatively easy to upgrade it. You can do this via simple changes like buying matching containers. Though not necessary, an aesthetically pleasing pantry where everything has a place and is labeled is likely to be much more useful than one where everything is jumbled up. Items being put in a specific area will help you find things faster and will also stop items from being hidden away.

If you don't have one, a pantry is one kitchen upgrade worth splashing out for if you can fit it somewhere. In Season 1, Episode 6 of "No Demo Reno," titled "Glam Guest House," Jenn Todryk made two wall cabinets with open shelving in-between (pictured above) the designated pantry space, creating heaps of space to store everything the family needed. Mixing open and closed storage space is ideal for a busy kitchen space, as it mixes aesthetics and practicality.
