The Stunning Way The Property Brothers Incorporate Metals Into A Modern Kitchen

Metals are having a moment. As we steer away from the traditional farmhouse kitchens, designers are leaning into more industrial elements to make a modern kitchen feel fresh, homey, and personal to the homeowner. In Season 7 of "Celebrity IOU," "Property Brothers" stars Jonathan and Drew Scott helped Regina Hall renovate the home of Vonda, her best friend. When it was time to tackle the kitchen, the Scotts knew they wanted to make sure the design included a pop of metal.

"We see from the beginning that Vonda loves gold and copper features," the Property Brothers said on their blog. "So while designing, Regina and Jonathan decided to incorporate the metals in unique ways. The range hood featured a gold rim, which hinted at the gold and copper specks in the counter's marble." By not only mixing the metals, but adding them to more modern elements, the brothers were able to create a home that was not only timeless, but also unique to Vonda's personal style.

How to add metal to your modern design

The final kitchen reveal showed a mostly modern space that features marble countertops, a matching backsplash, and neutral-colored cabinets. And while this alone makes for a gorgeous kitchen, by adding the gold to the black hood and choosing a marble with gold specks, the space was taken up a level. If you want to include metal in your kitchen design, there are a few ways to do it. You can use simple touches, like metal light fixtures — the metal bell cord pendants from Pottery Barn for $159 will enhance any space — metal knobs or other accents like bar stools or counter decor.

If you want to make a bigger statement, consider a metal range hood, similar to what "Property Brothers" stars Jonathan and Drew Scott did in their design on "Celebrity IOU." You can also opt for a metal backsplash in metals like copper or brass for an industrial look that feels inviting. Countertops can also be done in a metal, as well as the cabinets, which will give your kitchen that instant "wow" factor.

Metal options for your home

From copper to bronze to brass, there are a ton of red metals to choose from when you are trying to add some flair to your home design. If you want something bright and eye-catching, a gold color like copper or bronze will give you that look without looking outdated. This can be done simply by adding a faucet, like the Signature Hardware Ridgeway 1.8 GPM Single Handle Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet from Build for $299 that comes in oil rubbed bronze, polished brass, and satin copper. There are a number of creative ways to bring copper and bronze into your design.

If you're aiming for a more industrial-style kitchen renovation, look for iron or steel options. Your hardware choice can change the overall vibe of your kitchen and adding iron handles to your cabinets is a great way to ease into mixed metals. Antique iron handles from MyKnobs.com for $12 each are a great option that will give you that industrial feel almost instantly.
