DIY Stylish Storage Containers With An Item You Would Typically Throw Out
Running out of storage space in your home can be a pain, and there are only so many lifeless plastic bins you can buy. If you're a shopaholic and regularly receive packages on your doorstep, however, this creative solution may be for you. You can easily upcycle your cardboard delivery boxes to create extra storage, but marks and company logos would ruin your interior decoration just as much as plastic bins. No one wants to walk into their living room or pantry and see warehouse shelves stacked with Amazon boxes. Fortunately, you can customize those unsightly containers and make beautiful DIY bins that won't throw off your decor's delicate balance.
A TikTok video from user @beaconadhesives dishes out some easy steps for covering up the surfaces of all the cardboard boxes in your home using just a coil of rope and some strong glue. That way, the containers look like decorative bins rather than something that got thrown onto your front porch by a busy delivery person. You can even mix two different colors of rope for a stylish effect. Just snag some unbleached craft macrame rope, jute twine, and super glue, all of which you can get on Amazon for around $25.
Tailor your DIY storage boxes to suit your decor
Using a pair of scissors, cut the flaps off of your cardboard boxes. Next, attach lengths of rope around each box by lining it with glue as you go. Start from the bottom and wrap the rope around until you reach the top. Of course, you can also add your own designs and patterns. Try pasting the ropes vertically instead of horizontally, or switch rope types on each side.
These boxes will be great additions to your closet, but if you want them to be visible, you'll have to consider how well they pair with your decor. To help them match your walls or furniture, try painting them with acrylic paint a day before gluing on the rope. This way, the boxes can serve their purpose, but not at the expense of your room's style.
Once you've crafted your boxes to your satisfaction, you can move them to their respective rooms. The best part? Since delivery packages come in all sizes, they can fit anywhere — not just the closet. Take the smaller boxes to your bathroom to house clean washcloths and new toilet rolls, or place them on your pantry shelves to store spices and condiments. With luck, you won't have to buy storage bins anytime soon.
