Genius Ways To Repurpose Shower Caddies In Your Home
Shower caddies are essential for bathroom organization. No matter what you store in the baskets, from shampoo bottles to razors to soap bars, a caddy helps you clear clutter and make the bathroom feel clean. However, the loo is not the only place the shower caddy can spruce up. In fact, the organizer can be repurposed in every room of your home, and we've listed 11 different ways you can upcycle the caddy and maximize your storage space.
Our projects were executed with two-tiered hanging shower caddies like the BLECKSJÖN rack from IKEA, but you can use one-tier caddies and wall-mounted shower baskets, too. For singular baskets, hanging S-hooks from the bottom is a great way to increase the amount of items that can be stored on the container. You can also use any type of caddy, including ones made out of plastic, metal, or bamboo, for these upcycling hacks. Just ensure the shower caddy is clean before you use it anywhere in your home — some simple soap and water should do the trick.
DIY a spice rack
Your shower caddy can be handy in the kitchen, since it can be repurposed into a spice rack that will hold all your seasonings. Mount it on the wall close to the stove for easy access or install it inside of a cabinet to keep your spices out of sight. If the shower caddy has hooks, those are great places to hang kitchen towels, measuring cups, or oven mitts.
Increase food storage
Apart from spice storage, you can also use the shower caddy in the kitchen or pantry to house your other produce and food items. Place condiment bottles and snack pouches in the trays to free up space in your cupboard or refrigerator. You can even add a wired basket to the bottom of the shower caddy and fill it with larger produce like potatoes to maximize your hanging storage.
Maximize space around the kitchen sink
Another way to use your shower caddy in the kitchen is as a multipurpose organizer around the sink. The mounted basket is ideal for holding dish soap and air-drying sponges, but the possibilities don't stop there. You can also use the hooks to dry dishes like kitchen shears and cutting boards or use the top rack for a mini herb garden.
Tidy up inside cabinets
If your cabinets need better organization, you are not alone. But there's no need to stress, as a shower caddy can help maximize space and neaten the area inside your cupboard. All you need to do is hang or mount the caddy on the inside of the cabinet door. It is perfect for under-sink areas to house sponges, plastic gloves, and cleaning sprays. You can also use it in your bathroom vanity to hold things like hair products, makeup, and skincare.
Take advantage of space on top of toilet tanks
There's another way to use the shower caddy inside the bathroom, but this use isn't near the bathtub. Instead of in the shower, place it above the toilet tank to hold extra toilet paper, hand towels, and other toiletries. This way, your bathroom essentials will always be within arm's reach. If desired, you can cut off any hooks so the caddy is leveled and simply rest it on top of the tank without needing to mount it.
Organize your office supplies
A shower caddy is great for housing all your office supplies. Add cups to the basket to hold pens, lay sticky notes in the soap tray, and attach binder clips to the railing. It is also an inexpensive storage rack for school supplies that you can mount in kids' rooms. Similarly, if you're a crafter, caddies are the perfect size for spools of yarn and ribbon as well.
Create a charging station
A clever way to utilize the caddy is to make a charging station for your electronics. All you need to do is install the bathroom organizer above an electrical outlet. Then, when your devices need to charge, plug them in and leave them to rest in the basket. The caddy can fit both large items like a tablet and small gadgets like wireless earbuds. Plus, you can leave the charging wires in the basket at all times, so it's always ready to go.
Use it as a plant stand
Your shower caddy is also stellar as a plant stand that will liven up your space. Place your mini flower pots in the basket, then mount the caddy onto the wall or hang it behind a door. You can even forgo the flower pot and plant your seedlings directly into the caddy. Just lay some landscaping fabric inside the tray first before pouring in your soil and seeds.
Fashion a bedside caddy
In place of a nightstand, you can craft a bedside caddy with, you guessed it, a shower caddy. Attach the rack to the side of your bed frame and fill it with everything you would normally put in or on your nightstand — a novel, glasses, your phone, and anything else you want close by. It doesn't take up any floor space, and you can hang your comforter over it to hide it from view.
Organize your jewelry
Another way the caddy can be handy in your bedroom is as a jewelry holder. The storage baskets are perfect for mounting inside your closet door, on the wall, or on the side of your dresser. Stock bracelets in the baskets and hang necklaces from the hooks. You can also pierce earrings into a sheet of cardboard before placing it in the tray.
Increase your makeup storage
If your jewelry collection is slim but you have a lot of makeup, this might be a better upcycle idea for you. The caddy can offer ample storage for all your cosmetics. You can hang it up wherever you desire with a command strip and a hook. That way, you can unhook it and take it to the bathroom or near your vanity whenever you're getting ready.
