The Kitchen Countertop Trend Jenn Todryk Of HGTV's No Demo Reno Fully Supports

When it comes to kitchen design, the colors, features, and materials that you can use are constantly rotating in and out of style. For example, one interior design expert said we can expect all-white and monochromatic gray — colors that have been cabinet staples for quite some time – to become things of the past in 2024. In an interview with The Dallas Morning News, HGTV's Jenn Todryk also shared her thoughts on what's new and current in kitchen design. "The hot item is quartzite right now. It's a lot different than quartz," she said.

When it comes to kitchen countertops, the material is the main factor to consider. It determines the colors and patterns that are available to you, the quality of heat and stain resistance you can expect, and the durability of your counter. Because of its unique composition as a natural stone, visual appearance is one of quartzite's strengths, and that is what draws Jenn Todryk to it.

Quartzite

Quartz and quartzite countertops differ significantly, despite their names. Quartz countertops are engineered stone surfaces that mix pure quartz with other materials so they are impermeable and durable. Quartzite countertops are much more natural and made from sandstone. Quartz is a great counter material because it maintains a consistent appearance while being resistant to stains and scratches, but quartzite offers more visual interest.

"It gets more moody. It's got more movement, a lot of tans, dark tans," Jenn Todryk explained. For those who want more character from their countertop materials, the natural quality of quartzite will deliver that because of the stone's unique colors and patterns. David Bromstad, another HGTV star, loved the look of this material so much that he had to have it in his own home. Note that the downside of this is that it requires regular sealing to prevent stains and closer care and maintenance overall.
