Create High-End Home Decor Planters For Less With This Easy Dollar Tree DIY

There's little more rewarding than DIYing home décor that would've cost you over $50 at a retail store. You don't always have to use high-quality materials in your projects for them to look high-end. Dollar Tree is most DIYer's go-to store when purchasing items for their projects. You can find long-lasting materials without spending too much money. For instance, displaying planters with your home décor around your living room, kitchen, or bedroom elevates the space. They add a touch of color to the room and pair well with other pieces on nightstands or bookshelves. Planters often cost $15 to $20 if they're designed with additional features other than a simple ceramic pot. Instead of buying a $20 planter, DIYing one can cost you way less, especially when you purchase materials from Dollar Tree.

A couple of wood frames from canvases and hanging jars can create a luxe planter. By staining or painting the wood frames and jars, you can give your planter décor a rustic look with wood stain or a minimalist look with white paint. You can find the canvases and hanging jars at Dollar Tree for $1.25 each. Dollar Tree has other jar options if you can't find the hanging jars online. You need a small one with a removable lid, such as this lattice pattern jar. In addition, you'll need scissors, a hot glue gun, a staple remover, wood stain or paint, and your choice of flowers.

Assembling your DIY planter

Start by removing the staples and canvas from the wood frames, as shown by TikTok user @gleespen_designs, with scissors or a rotary cutter. You should end up with staples in the corners that hold the wood frame together. Then, stain or paint the front and back sides of the frame with your color choice. Set them aside to dry, and grab your jars. You have two options to transform your jars: spray paint or hand paint. The spray paint will adhere better to the glass, but standard paint will work, too. Remove the wires from the jars to paint the glass and let them dry. You can leave the wires as is or paint them, too, like the TikToker did. However, you can customize your jars by replacing the wire with twine for a farmhouse look or ribbon for a dainty appearance.

While your jars are drying, take your wood frames and remove the staples in one corner to interlock them. Slide the open frame over the closed one and hot glue the corner, then create an "X" with the frames and add hot glue where they meet. Allow the glue to dry, and turn the frames on their side to fit both jars inside. Finally, add your flowers to the jars and put them inside the wood frames—the result: gorgeous high-end planters. Display them on an end table to elevate your living room's aesthetic. DIY many home décor planters for your house, or gift them to friends.
