If there's one thing a closet is going to do, it's fill up fast. Even if you move into a sizable space with a walk-in closet, once you start putting up your clothes, shoes, bags, and boxes, you'll soon realize why some people dedicate a whole room to just storing garments and accessories. If you happen to be a shopaholic, you may be considering turning your guest room into a storage area for all your garments. Luckily, you don't have to do this, as there's an easy social media hack that will turn just one hanger into an opportunity to save a whole ton of space. TikTok creator @toyogogroup demonstrates how you can drop a chain onto a hanger to create more vertical storage.

Not only is this chain hack super efficient in maximizing the square footage you have, it's also a budget-friendly way to organize your bedroom closet and a great stress-reliever. You won't have to worry about expanding your closet or giving away some of your treasured clothing items. Once you collect your clothes hangers and purchase a metal or plastic chain such as the Mr. Chain Plastic Barrier Chain from Amazon, you'll have everything you need.

Take the chain hack further with color-coded links

This chain hack is probably one of the simplest closet organization DIYs you will ever accomplish. After purchasing your chain, fit the top ring around the hanger and hang it up on one of the closet dowels. Then, add additional hangers to each link going down. This will verticalize the clothes in the closet and reduce the amount of horizontal space they take up.

To organize your garments, let one hanger chain house similar types of clothes. For example, all the hoodies you stole from your partner get a chain, while the dress shirts get their own, and so forth. Further, if color coding helps you organize your closet, you can purchase (or spray paint) chains in different colors to hold similar items. For instance, all your shirts could hang on red chains, while your dresses could be on yellow ones. However, be wary of adding too many hangers to one chain, as they could weigh down the top hanger. Additionally, to prevent clean items from sweeping the floor, place longer items near the top and shorter ones at the bottom.

This hack would also be perfect for coat storage if you don't have a coat closet. Nail a bracket (which you could purchase on Amazon) to the wall and hang a black chain on it. Each visitor can hang their coats on the chain instead of on a horizontal rack or multiple hooks to save space while maintaining aesthetics.
