Unsellable Houses' Lyndsay Lamb Typically Builds Her Designs Around This Feature

It's no surprise that "Unsellable Houses" star Lyndsay Lamb has a stunning home, as she has impeccable interior design skills. While every designer has a different process that works for them, if you've ever wondered how Lamb approaches getting started, the answer might surprise you: The expert typically begins with the floor or tiles. "I generally start with a good tile or flooring then pull the rest together. I start building style boards ahead of time and then go back and reference them when I think they would be a good fit for a home," Lamb told Hilary Winfield

Although the floor or tiling may not sound too glamorous or exciting of a starting point, these are crucial aspects of any room's interior, and you need to take them seriously. So, if you don't know where to start when designing or renovating your home's interior, you may want to follow in the HGTV star's footsteps and begin your process by thinking about what you aspire to do with the floors and if you plan to add any tiling in your home.

Flooring upgrades will make your home more valuable

If you're renovating, your home's value will benefit from giving your floors an upgrade. "Over the years, I have noticed that homes with new flooring tend to sell for much more! ... In addition to new paint, I often suggest freshening up the flooring. Replacing carpet, refinishing hardwood floors, or adding luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring will help make a massive difference when selling your home," wrote Leslie Davis — Lyndsay Lamb's twin sister and "Unsellable Houses" co-star — on Lamb & Co.

How much do these suggestions cost? You'll likely have to pay between $1 and $4 for each square foot of a carpet replacement. On the other hand, prepare to spend between $3 and $8 per square foot to have your hardwood floors refinished. And finally, if you want to add vinyl plank flooring, you could have to pay anywhere between $250 and $4,600 for each room you get it in. The cost tends to average around $2,400 per room. Whichever improvement you invest in, remember that it will make your home more valuable.

Don't forget about tile

In addition to flooring, Lyndsay Lamb said she also sees tile as a starting point, so consider thinking about areas in your home that you think can benefit from fresh tile, as well as how you want to the tile to look. Do you want to go for elegant and sophisticated or bold and dramatic? Do you want just a backsplash, to tile a full wall, or anything in between? And how much are you willing to spend on the update?

If you want something "Unsellable Houses"-approved, Lamb recommends subway tiles. "Subway tiles are going to be a classic," she told Cleveland.com, also noting that they'll remain stylish regardless of changing trends. Those white, rectangular tiles can add a sleek upgrade to various areas of your home, such as your kitchen or bathroom. If you want to invest in this chic tile design, get ready to pay between $7 and $35 for each square foot. Like floor upgrades, of course, the fresh tiles will make your home more attractive to guests and potential buyers.
