The Brilliant Way To Reuse Old Glass Jars To Elevate The Look Of Your Bathroom

Decorating your home should never stop at just the living room and bedrooms. We spend a considerable amount of time in the bathroom so putting up a shower curtain and throwing a floor mat down just won't cut it. A tasteful bathroom will elevate your mood every time you step inside, and what better way to spruce it up than by upcycling your kitchen waste? Those old Mason glass jars that used to house jam and pickles and are stocked up in your pantry cupboard can easily be repurposed into cheerful DIY soap dispensers.

Liquid hand soap is likely something that you regularly buy. It usually comes in plastic containers, which we're all well aware aren't great for the environment. While the plastic jar is recyclable — albeit, not without its pollution — the pump is often not because it contains so many pieces of different materials. Switching to glass dispensers cuts the need for recycling because they are reusable. They're also a more tasteful alternative because glass is far classier than plastic. You'll even save money by purchasing refills instead of a new bottle each time.

To transform your boring old jars into sophisticated and stylish liquid soap dispensers, you'll need some liquid soap, old Mason glass jars, Mason jar pumps, and some crafts tools for customization. You want these DIY dispensers to stand out with their personalities so grab some enamel paint and cute labels for a start.

Fill up the jars with soap and dried herbs

Your DIY mason jar soap dispenser can be put together in just a few minutes. Get all your favorite soap scents for every spare jar you have. Fill up the jars and apply the pumps. You can get the normal pumps, or you can go all out and buy some of the fancier ones, like these from Walmart, for a few extra dollars. Just make sure to measure everything first so they fit your glass jars and aren't simply made for regular dispensers so you don't end up disappointed when the package arrives.

To fancify the dispensers, grab that enamel paint and a brush and get to work. You can paint the entire jar before you fill it with soap, or throw down some floral designs and shapes. Slap the adhesive labels on the jars for the final effect. Speaking of florals, you can go above and beyond by customizing the soap as well. If you're leaving your glass jars see-through, add dried, scented flowers such as jasmine and vanilla to the bottle before pouring in the soap to give it some extra flavor.

Don't hesitate to add some twine to the jar either. Tie a cute bow around the mouth to give it a more rustic aesthetic. If you have extra jars left, you could turn one into a hand lotion dispenser and stick a different label on it. The process is the same, and a lot of soap manufacturers make refills for lotion, too.

These DIY soap dispensers are easy to wash too

After a while of using your DIY glass jar soap dispenser, you may notice caked soap in and around the jar, especially near the lid and the pump. This is normal. Different soaps have their own properties and ingredients and the ones that contain a high amount of glycerin are likely to coagulate and block the dispenser pump.

To wash your dispenser in between refills, simply pop it in the dishwasher. Glass is generally dishwasher safe, so you have nothing to worry about. Make sure that you give it a good rinse to clear out some of that buildup beforehand, though. If you prefer to wash your glass jars by hand, then you can do so with vinegar.

This kitchen staple will keep the glass from becoming foggy and will help sterilize it. Just pour vinegar into the bottle until ⅓ of it is full, and then fill it up the rest of the way with hot water. Let this stand for ten minutes before pouring it out and rinsing.
