This Nifty IKEA Hack Adds Storage To Any Bathroom (& It Only Requires Two Items)

Having a small bathroom is common, but that doesn't mean it isn't annoying. A lack of storage space can lead to cluttered counters and an even more compact look thanks to the lack of visible surfaces. Medicine cabinets or other storage solutions are a good option, but, if you're on a budget, the following IKEA hack will solve your issue at a fraction of the cost.

For this space-boosting solution, you'll need a few of the IKEA SKOGSVIKEN trays and an IKEA SKOGSVIKEN towel rail from the same range. As of now, the items only come in a matte black finish, but this should still match most bathrooms. Though the towel rail needs to be attached to the wall, you could try using peel-and-stick adhesive strips to make this hack renter-friendly. Simple enough that even the most DIY-averse of people can pull it off, we love this hack because of how easy and inexpensive it is, not to mention that it will bring both style and function to your bathroom.

You'll be able to find your bathroom essentials much more quickly

To create your new storage area, take the towel rail and attach it to the back of your sink/countertop area. If your sink backsplash isn't wide enough or the material not right, you could alternatively attach the rail to a wall like you would if using it as a towel rail. The point is for it to be in the most convenient location for you, whether that's next to the toilet or above the sink. Next, place the small trays on the towel rail. You now have your very own extra storage space using only two items. As the trays are small, they won't fit much on, but they will free up valuable countertop space.

Some ideas for items you could store using the trays include using one for your wash items such as shampoo and body wash to save space in the bath or shower, and one for your toothbrush, toothpaste, and other dental essentials. The curved sides of the tray design mean you won't have to worry about things falling — just ensure the towel rail is fully secure. A potential downside of the items used in this hack is that they are only available in black. However, you could change the black to a color more your style. You'll need a good primer and heavy coverage of your chosen color when painting over dark colors, but it can be done.
