HGTV Star-Approved Kitchen Cabinet Colors To Consider Using In Your Home

David Bromstad of "My Lottery Dream Home," Leslie Davis and Lyndsay Lamb of "Unsellable Houses," Alison Victoria of "Windy City Rehab," Jasmine Roth of "Help! I Wrecked My House," Egypt Sherrod of "Married to Real Estate," Jenn Todryk of "No Demo Reno," and "Christina on the Coast's" Christina Hall have all given their take on the best kitchen cabinet color.

Narrowing down the right color can feel like a huge and difficult decision, but the above pros will help make it easier. From popular choices like various shades of green and blue to more daring picks like pink and calmer ones like tan, there's a color choice to suit everyone. We've got all the inspiration you need, whether you're looking to accent one or two cabinets by painting them a different color or renovating your entire kitchen.

Pink is a fun, flirty, and bold color that's perfect for updating your kitchen, and David Bromstad of "My Lottery Dream Home" agrees. Speaking to Apartment Therapy, Bromstad recommended painting your cabinets pink, sharing, "Personally, I love to add color to my kitchen by painting the cabinets. I prefer to keep my backsplash neutral and classic with some interesting shapes. Painting your cabinets is such a powerful (form of) self-expression. It's not gonna cost you an arm and a leg, and it's definitely going to make a huge impact." 

If bright pink isn't your thing, opt for a soft muted pink instead like "Baby Soft" from Clare. Lighter pink shades can actually be a great accent with colors like green and blue, or take Bromstad's advice and stick to neutrals if you're worried about overpowering your kitchen. As for hardware, both gold and silver will match, or you could choose rose gold for a tiny bit more of a pink influence. Not sure about an all-pink kitchen? Paint one or two cabinets pink and the rest soft beige for a cohesive look.

Blue can create a calm and relaxed atmosphere, making it a great color for kitchen cabinets. In a TikTok posted by HGTV, Jasmine Roth of "Help! I Wrecked My House" stated, "One of my favorite colors to use on cabinets is blue, whether it's like a vibrant royal blue or like a really nice light calm blue all the way to almost an ocean blue that has a bit more of a pop."

As blue is such a versatile color, it can go with both light and dark kitchens. If your kitchen doesn't get a lot of light, stick to airier blue shades or mid blues like "Favorite Jeans" from Sherwin-Williams. This go-with-anything color will give your kitchen a contemporary look, especially if paired with white. If you have a larger kitchen that receives more natural light, you can go for darker shades like "Hague Blue" from Farrow & Ball. Choose gold cabinet handles to accentuate the elegant nature of this color. Pair with white for a crisp look or cream for a softer one.

Lyndsay Lamb and Leslie Davis of "Unsellable Houses" think that you should paint your kitchen cabinets in one specific shade — denim blue. In a Facebook post, the pair shared how they transformed a kitchen from Season 3, Episode 9 by painting the cabinets in "Aleutian" from Sherwin-Williams, an invigorating, energetic shade that will remind you of your favorite pair of jeans. Unlike the dark cabinets that were there before, the light blue shade brought life into the previously dated kitchen. "We loved the color so much that we even used it as an accent in multiple other parts of the house bringing life throughout!" the post read. 

As mentioned above, light blue is an excellent way to incorporate a fresh feel into a smaller kitchen. Bright white countertops will balance things out and allow you to bring in other colors. You don't just have to stick with pastels and neutrals when it comes to coordinating the rest of your kitchen with your new blue cabinets. Adding in a pop of color with brighter shades like yellow and pink will help to stop your kitchen from looking too one-note (the same goes for less mild shades of pastels if bright colors aren't your style).

Gray green cabinets are very in (just ask Reese Witherspoon), but so are green cabinets by themselves. In Season 2, Episode 5 of "Married to Real Estate," Egypt Sherrod asks the renovating couple, "How do we feel about a soft, warm green for the kitchen cabinets?" The couple say that green had never occurred to them, but they like the idea of it. They end up deciding to go for it, with Sherrod pairing the green cabinets with a quartz countertop for a "modern rustic feel." 

Green can be both warm and cool, but in this case Sherrod specifically recommends warm green for a cozy, welcoming vibe. To ensure things don't look too diluted (after all, the kitchen should still be an energizing place), contrast your green cabinets with white countertops and gleaming golden hardware. We love the aptly-named "Breakfast Room Green," a lively yet still soft light green, and "Folly Green," a slightly stronger mid-green shade, both from Farrow & Ball. If you want a vintage touch, contrast green with dark wood accents, or stick to metal for a contemporary vibe.

Egypt Sherrod isn't the only one who favors green cabinets. While giving Entertainment Tonight a tour of her Chicago home, "Windy City Home" star Alison Victoria mentioned her love of green. "It's [referring to green] a favorite color," shared Victoria. "I always say bring in the green. It's just such a refreshing color that brings life and energy." Unlike Egypt Sherrod's recommendation of a soft, warm green in the kitchen, Victoria's chosen shade is more of a rich and dark green.

Make things a little moody with "Current Mood" from Clare or "Forest Symphony" from Valspar. Victoria shared that she opted for brass hardware, which will create a rich and elegant look, but you can achieve a similar vibe with gold too for extra shine. Instead of all-green cabinets, Victoria chose to make her taller cabinets green and her countertops black with white marble countertops. She continued the green theme elsewhere by putting accessories such as a green fruit bowl on the kitchen island.

Neutrals never go out of style, but not all kitchens need to be white or beige. Speaking to Homes & Gardens, Jenn Todryk of "No Demo Reno" recommended tan as the new neutral. "A light tan cabinet provides the same amount of space, openness, and lightness as white, but it has a little bit more depth and feels more organic but modern," Todryk shared. "Tan taps into lots of different design aesthetics, meaning it's versatile enough to work in any kind of home; that's why it's consequently coming back in a whole new way. This tone, in particular, has more depth than traditional beige – and it feels more organic. I love this color, and I'm seeing increasingly more people love it too."

Tan is a warm-toned neutral that's an excellent way to bring coziness to your kitchen. "Canvas Tan" from Sherwin-William is a great choice for a kitchen of any size. Neutral countertops would carry on the monochrome theme, but you could also choose black for a dramatic contrast. Tan kitchen cabinets with black handles would be the perfect mix of traditional and contemporary design — just put in a few splashes of color elsewhere to create contrast (unless you want a specifically monochrome look).

For some, black cabinets would be a design no-go, but not for Christina Hall of "Christina on the Coast," who opted for black oak cabinets in her California home. In a clip shared via PEOPLE, Hall revealed, "Our new kitchen is finally complete. Josh [Hall's husband] and I had so much fun doing this project together and our styles actually aligned so that always makes it easier." Later on in the clip, Hall showed off her nearby bar and kitchen cabinets, stating, "I'm so glad we went with the black oak cabinets and I love how they play off the bar."

As black oak is normally a stain or finish, most people opt to have them put in from the start. Unlike other colors on this list, which can be painted over existing cabinets, black oak is more a style than a particular paint color. Hall chose gleaming white granite countertops to match her cabinets, which creates a sophisticated look throughout the kitchen and prevents it from looking too dark. It also matches the lighter floor color. Black cabinets can be a tricky look to pull off, but the key is to add in light elsewhere, whether that's natural light through windows or lighter paint shades.
